Over the past 24 hours, Thua Thien - Hue province has had rain, moderate rain, and in some places very heavy rain with common rainfall of 150-300 mm. By the morning of December 2, the water level of the Bo River was close to alert level 3, causing flooding in many low-lying residential areas downstream of the Bo River in Quang Dien district and Huong town.

Early the same morning, the water on the Bo River rose rapidly and flowed rapidly, flooding several roads and cutting off traffic. Many people raising fish in cages along the Bo River urgently reinforced their cages and rafts to limit damage.

The downstream of Bo River is flooded, people travel by boat

Mr. Ho Dang Hai (50 years old, living in Giap Kien village, Huong Toan commune, Huong Tra town) said that yesterday it was raining lightly so he thought there would be no flooding. Who would have thought that at 5am this morning the water rose so quickly, flooding into the house that he couldn't react in time...

According to records, many roads in Giap Kien village have water levels rising more than 30 cm, people have to travel by boat.

In Xuan Tuy village (Quang Phu commune, Quang Dien district), many roads in the village were submerged by flood water, from 0.2-0.5 m deep, some places were deeper. Some gardens of people's houses were also flooded.

The downstream of Bo River in Quang Vinh and Quang Tho communes (Quang Dien district) also fell into a similar situation, affecting people's lives.

The Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Thua Thien - Hue province said that since last night, the upstream area of the Bo River has had heavy to very heavy rain. At Huong Dien hydropower reservoir, there was a time when flood water was recorded at over 2,500 m3/s. It is forecasted that the flood on the Bo River will recede slowly, causing flooding in low-lying urban areas downstream. Previously, Huong Dien hydropower reservoir adjusted the operating flow to regulate through the spillway and turbine with a gradual increase in flow, avoiding sudden changes of about 300 - 700 m3/s.

Faced with the complicated developments of the new flood season, the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control requested owners of irrigation and hydroelectric dams in the area to regularly update the operation of the dams, provide information to the Standing Office of the Steering Committee, and notify and regulate localities and units to proactively respond to and mitigate natural disasters.

Thua Thien - Hue province has directed localities to review plans to evacuate people in areas at risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, hills, riverbanks, estuaries, coastal areas, construction sites under construction, low-lying and flooded areas to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
