On the morning of November 8, during a working trip to Chongqing City (China), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a friendly meeting with overseas Vietnamese students and the Vietnamese community in Chongqing.
Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai said that there are about 400 international students and 600 Vietnamese people living in Chongqing, accounting for 1/4 of the Vietnamese community living in western China. Although living far from their homeland, the community is always united, loving each other, and looking towards the country. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (President of the Vietnamese Association in Chongqing) said that the Vietnamese Association in Chongqing was established in October 2022 with the aim of building a common home to support and help each other, inheriting and spreading the culture of the two countries. Most of the people have stable lives, always spreading the spirit of patriotism. Sharing about the difficulties in operations, Ms. Lan mentioned maintaining the traditional order, language and culture for young overseas Vietnamese born and raised in the host country, as well as attracting overseas Vietnamese resources in commercial investment. Mr. Tran Van Dat (PhD student at Chongqing University, Chairman of the Vietnamese Student Association in Chongqing) informed that there are about 400 overseas students in Chongqing, mainly concentrated in major universities: Chongqing, Southwest, Transport, Industry and Trade... most of whom receive full scholarships from the Chinese Government. Overseas students have access to the most modern transportation technology such as subways, high-speed trains... but also face some difficulties in language barriers, culinary culture, and living expenses. Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed the greetings, wishes for good health, and wishes for success from the Party and State leaders to the people. The Prime Minister was moved when he arrived at the airport on the evening of November 7 and was greeted by many international students and the Vietnamese community. Informing about the domestic situation, the Prime Minister outlined the historical period of the country when it went through two resistance wars and the period of siege and embargo. After nearly 40 years, Vietnam has achieved many achievements, "previously, being surrounded and embargoed made it difficult to go anywhere, but today, wherever we go, we are respected because the country's position has changed, because of the country's strong rise after the renovation process", the Prime Minister emphasized. From an economic scale of only 4 billion USD, by 2023, Vietnam has risen to 433 billion USD, ranking 34th in the world. The Prime Minister mentioned achievements in the economy, society, and foreign affairs "to see the strong rise and rise of the nation".
