“Transparent Information - Safe Consumption” (Part 1): Protecting Consumers is a Common Responsibility of Society

Determined to prevent and repel smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, relevant levels and sectors of the province have actively implemented measures to grasp the situation, methods and tricks of the subjects to take timely preventive and handling measures, protect consumer rights, and contribute to building a healthy business environment.

Based on information from the people, the Thanh Hoa Association for Standards and Consumer Protection (TC&BVNTD) coordinated with Market Management Team No. 1 (Thanh Hoa City) to inspect the Bao Anh business household at kiosk 11, 2nd floor, Co.opmart Supermarket, Dien Bien Ward, represented by Mr. Nguyen Duy Cuong. Through inspection, the forces discovered that the kiosk was displaying and selling counterfeit Adidas branded goods, the kiosk owner could not present invoices, vouchers or papers related to the shipment. At the scene, the forces discovered 50 pairs of shoes and 20 sets of clothes bearing the Adidas brand. In response to the above incident, Market Management Team No. 1 advised the Provincial Market Management Department to issue a decision to administratively sanction Mr. Nguyen Duy Cuong and force the destruction of all shoes and clothes as evidence according to regulations.

Also according to the denunciation of the people, the Thanh Hoa Association of Trade Unions and Trade Unions together with Market Management Teams No. 10, No. 1, No. 9 (Thanh Hoa Provincial Market Management Department) coordinated with the Professional Department 1, the Professional Department (General Department of Market Management and PC03 Department, Provincial Police to inspect the business household of Ms. Truong Thi Lien, Village 4, Quang Trung Commune (Bim Son Town) for trading in goods of unknown origin. Through the inspection, the forces discovered 17 types of goods (4,622 units of products such as shoes, sandals, clothes...) worth more than 250 million VND, the business owner could not present invoices, vouchers or papers related to the shipment. After working with related units, the Director of the Provincial Market Management Department issued a decision to administratively fine Ms. Truong Thi Lien the business household in the amount of 45 million VND and confiscated all violating goods for destruction. as prescribed.

These are two of many violations that Thanh Hoa Association of Consumer Protection and Consumer Protection has coordinated with functional forces to inspect and handle from information reported by consumers in recent times.

To ensure consumer rights, the Department of Industry and Trade has coordinated with the Thanh Hoa Association of Consumer Rights and Protection, the Market Management Department to regularly organize information and propaganda activities to consumers in various forms, such as: Responding to Vietnamese Consumer Rights Day (March 15) and World No Tobacco Day (May 31), on genuine goods, fake goods, and smart consumption; Plan No. 202/KH-UBND dated September 10, 2021 of the Provincial People's Committee on the implementation of the Program to develop consumer rights protection activities, period 2021-2025 in Thanh Hoa province... Thereby, recommending consumers to use smarter and more effective consumption. In addition, through the activities of the consumer consultation and complaint settlement office, the Thanh Hoa Association of Consumer Protection and Rehabilitation has propagated and guided consumers to understand the basics of the Law on Consumer Protection, how to distinguish genuine goods from fake goods... Including priority programs for vulnerable consumers, such as: students, children, the elderly, consumers in rural areas, remote areas, border areas, islands... At the same time, the Thanh Hoa Association of Consumer Protection and Rehabilitation coordinated with the Steering Committee 389 of districts, towns and cities in the province to organize the signing of commitments for 4,599 production and business establishments "Not to produce, transport, store, trade in counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, goods that infringe intellectual property rights"; Distribute documents "Q&A on law and consumer rights protection" and "Consumer rights protection consultant handbook" to officials and members to serve the work of protecting consumer rights in the province.

Mr. Tran Duc Luong, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Association of Consumer Protection and Consumer Rights, said: In recent times, with the participation of the entire political system, the work of protecting consumer rights in the province has had positive changes, consumer rights have been guaranteed, the market has been stable, contributing to promoting the economic and social development of the province. With the responsibility of association members, the branches have focused on propagating to consumers the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods; food safety; e-commerce, propagating and organizing booths to compare genuine and fake goods at fairs, markets, supermarkets; preventing, checking and handling the failure to post prices, selling at prices not listed. Many members are members participating in inspection and control, together with the branches of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, the Steering Committee 389 of districts, towns and cities to inspect establishments and handle violations. Along with that, the branches regularly exchange with businesses to build relationships between production and consumption, and at the same time reflect consumer opinions to producers - businesses - services.

In 2024, with the theme "Transparent Information - Safe Consumption", the industry and trade sector calls for, mobilizes and encourages the participation of state agencies, social organizations, businesses and consumers in related activities. Gradually turn Vietnam Consumer Rights Day into an important driving force and highlight in socio-economic life, supporting the business activities of legitimate production and trading enterprises, while ensuring the basic rights of consumers, especially the right to access information in a transparent and safe manner.
