(Baoquangngai.vn) - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien agreed on the plan to take water from the North main canal of the Thach Nham irrigation system to the Tra Bong River to supplement the water source to ensure the operation of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Iron and Steel Production Complex.
On the morning of February 11, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien chaired a meeting to give opinions on the water supply plan for the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Iron and Steel Production Complex (Complex 2).

Complex 2 has a scale of 280 hectares, with a total investment of 85 trillion VND. The designed capacity is 5.6 million tons of high-quality hot-rolled steel coil/year. Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Joint Stock Company is focusing its resources to complete and put into operation the Complex 2 project in 2025. At the same time, it continues to invest in developing the processing of high-quality steel products in Dung Quat Economic Zone with the goal of self-sufficient production to serve key national projects.

Currently, the raw water source for the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 1 Iron and Steel Complex is being exploited from the Tra Bong River with a flow rate of 100,000 cubic meters per day and night. For Complex 2, the water source for the project is at risk of not being guaranteed due to the current situation of the B7 canal that cannot be renovated and upgraded in time.
Therefore, the investor proposed a plan to take water from the North main canal of the Thach Nham irrigation system to the Tra Bong River to supplement the water source to ensure stable operation of Complex 2.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien agreed with the proposal of Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Joint Stock Company. Assign Quang Ngai Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited to be the focal point to complete procedures and implement investment in the canal head sluice to ensure water supply conditions for the project.
Localities with canals passing through them need to renovate and upgrade the current drainage axis and manage and operate the canal based on the coordination regulations between the parties. The project investor is responsible for signing a contract to purchase raw water from Quang Ngai Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited from the Thach Nham irrigation system.
