According to the high school entrance exam regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the 10th grade exam consists of 3 subjects: Math, Literature and a third subject; in which the third subject must change after 3 years. Currently, some provinces and cities have announced the third subject.
Regarding the plan to announce the third exam subject, a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that by the end of March 2025, this unit will announce the third exam subject for grade 10.
The Department also said that in order for secondary schools to facilitate teaching and learning; students to be proactive in learning and reviewing, since the end of August 2024, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has announced the format structure and sample questions for the subjects: Math; Literature, English, History and Geography, Natural Sciences, Informatics, Civic Education; and affirmed that this is the basis for building a question bank and making 10th grade exams according to the 2018 General Education Program.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training requested that secondary schools direct professional teams to research and apply exam format structures suitable for each subject so that grade 9 students can become familiar with them; strengthen the construction of question banks and test matrices according to the requirements of the subject program; encourage the construction of digital libraries of test questions, surveys, and sharing with educational institutions in the area to exchange and support the effective implementation of testing and assessment methods and forms.
Up to this point, many provinces and cities have announced the selection of a third subject in the 10th grade exam for the 2025-2026 school year. Provinces such as Binh Duong, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Bac Kan, Nghe An, Hue, Lam Dong... have all chosen English as the third subject.
Previously, the 10th grade exam was initiated by the local authorities. However, 2025 is the first year that students under the new general education program (2018 program) graduate, the Ministry of Education and Training believes that there should be unified regulations nationwide.
On January 8, the Ministry finalized the regulations for secondary and high school admissions from 2025. Accordingly, for grade 10 admissions, localities can choose to conduct entrance exams, review admissions or combine them. If there is an entrance exam, the exam will include Math, Literature and a third subject (or a combined exam). This subject is selected by the Department from subjects assessed by scores, but no subject can be selected for more than three consecutive years.
The Ministry requires localities to announce the third subject after the first semester ends and before March 31, to facilitate students' review.
By February 6, about 20 localities had announced the third subject for the 10th grade exam, all of which selected English or Foreign Language (including English and several other foreign languages).
On February 6, Ho Chi Minh City finalized the 10th grade exam schedule for 2025. Accordingly, the entrance exam for public grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6-7. Candidates will take the Math and Literature exams in 120 minutes and the Foreign Language (mainly English) in 90 minutes. Candidates for specialized schools will take an additional exam in specialized subjects (150 minutes). The exam will follow the content of the secondary school curriculum, but there will be differentiation to ensure the selection of gifted students. |
