Creating breakthroughs for technology businesses

Resolution 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation (Resolution 57) has clearly shown us that startups in the technology sector are the new driving force of growth.

In order for this new driving force to grow strongly, the Party, the Government and the entire political system have been urgently and resolutely innovating, creating foundations and policies to create a generation of "unicorns" of technology startups in the country.

Resolution 57 sets a target that by 2030, Vietnam will have at least 5 digital technology enterprises of international stature. This is an important but also challenging task, requiring determination and efforts from many sides.

In fact, Vietnam is creating a very favorable and open environment for technology businesses to operate; the speed of applying and using technology in daily life is very high. For many years, the number of people, young people, and teenagers who are proficient in using smartphones, computers, and internet applications has been increasing continuously, creating a very vibrant technology market and environment.

However, to successfully implement the goals set out in Resolution 57, we need to focus on implementing many important and urgent tasks with breakthroughs and innovations. One of the top goals mentioned by many experts and businesses is that the State needs to research and immediately issue preferential policies on taxes, capital and related legal regulations to promote technology startups. These policies need to focus on removing practical obstacles; unblocking capital sources for technology businesses in a more flexible and open direction; building a separate trading floor for technology businesses with incentives and advantages, eliminating binding and rigid regulations, etc.

An equally important factor is the need to immediately issue specific, unique policies to attract and welcome domestic and international technology talents to work and contribute in Vietnam. Schools from primary to university levels need to innovate technology education programs towards focusing on training technology skills, creative thinking and entrepreneurship for students; continuously expand the environment, opportunities for internships, exchanges, research and development of technology products for young people.

We have 5 years to strive to overcome challenges and successfully achieve the goal of having 5 digital technology enterprises on par with advanced countries. In the first days of this process, technology enterprises in particular and the technology sector in general need strong support and breakthrough policies from the Party, Government, National Assembly, etc. Right now, functional agencies, ministries, branches, and central agencies need to urgently create legal corridors as well as policies that bring about substantial changes to build trust for businesses and investors, etc.
