Synchronicity Earth (UK) supports 4 districts in Quang Ngai to conserve the Grey-shanked Douc Langur

Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 625 QD-UBND dated May 27, 2024 to receive nearly 1.3 billion VND from the Technical Support Project for the Conservation of Gray-shanked Douc Langurs in 4 Districts of Quang Ngai Province sponsored by Synchronicity Earth (UK).

The project is funded by Synchronicity Earth (UK) through the Green Viet Biodiversity Conservation Center and is implemented in 04 districts: Tra Bong, Son Ha, Son Tay and Ba To (Quang Ngai province).

4 districts: Tra Bong, Son Ha, Son Tay and Ba To (Quang Ngai province) received technical support from Synchronicity Earth (UK) to conserve the Grey-shanked Douc species.

The objective of the Project is to investigate and survey the distribution of the Grey-shanked Douc in the locality and provide training to improve the architecture and skills of conservation work to develop a plan for sustainable protection of the Grey-shanked Douc in Quang Ngai province in particular, contributing to the restoration and development of key populations of the species in Vietnam, including the following objectives:

Objective 1: Information on the current distribution and population of the Grey-shanked Douc in Quang Ngai province will be fully updated as a basis for developing a plan for sustainable management and conservation of the species in the province.

Objective 2: Improve knowledge and skills in using SMART software in forest protection patrols; wildlife rescue skills for civil servants, forest rangers; officials and employees of forest owners in Quang Ngai province.

Also through the main activities of the project to obtain information and data on the distribution and quantity of the Grey-shanked Douc and assess the threat to the species in the districts of Tra Bong, Son Ha, Son Tay and Ba To.

In addition, civil servants, forest rangers; officials and employees of forest owners in the province have initially successfully applied SMART software in forest patrolling and biodiversity monitoring.

At the same time, civil servants, forest rangers; officials and employees of forest owners in the province are equipped with knowledge and skills in caring for and rescuing wild animals.

The grey-shanked douc langur is a primate that only lives in the wild and is on the red list of endangered species. This species only exists in Vietnam, distributed in 6 provinces in the Central and Central Highlands regions: Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Gia Lai, Kon Tum and Phu Yen with more than 2,000 individuals. These localities have implemented synchronous solutions to improve the effectiveness of conservation work for this rare species.
