Thanks to his goal against Liverpool in the Premier League on September 30, Korean striker Son Heung-min increased his scoring record for European clubs to 200.
In the 36th minute of the match at Tottenham Hotspur, after a cross from Richarlison, Son Heung-min swooped in to tap the ball in to open the scoring for Tottenham. It was his 151st goal for the London team in all competitions. Before that, he had scored 20 goals for Hamburg and 29 goals for Bayer Leverkusen. In addition, he also contributed a goal for the Hamburg youth team in the German fourth division.
Son is currently sixth on Tottenham's all-time goalscoring list. If he scores nine more, he will move up to fifth, ahead of Cliff Jones. Harry Kane, who moved to Bayern in the summer, remains Tottenham's all-time record scorer with 280 goals. The next three spots are occupied by Jimmy Greaves (268), Bobby Smith (208) and Martin Chivers (174).

Son was discovered in South Korea before joining Hamburg's youth team in 2008, aged just 16. After seven years playing in Germany, he joined Tottenham for $33 million. The 31-year-old striker was crowned Premier League top scorer in the 2021-2022 season, won the Premier League Goal of the Season award in 2019-2020, FIFA Puskas Award in 2020, reached the final of the 2018-2019 Champions League and the final of the 2020-2021 League Cup.
Son became Tottenham captain on August 12, after Kane left for Bayern. Center-back Curtis Romero and midfielder James Maddison were vice-captains. In the 2023-2024 season, the new Tottenham captain scored six goals in eight games.
Son Heung-min is also the captain of the South Korean national team, where he has scored 37 goals in 113 matches. He is the third-highest scorer for the national team, behind Cha Bum Kun with 58 goals and Hwang Sun Hong with 50 goals.
Along with Arsenal, Tottenham is one of two teams that have not lost a match in the 2023-2024 Premier League. They are ranked second with 17 points, while Man City leads with one more point.
Tottenham have improved significantly from their eighth-place finish last season. Earlier in the summer transfer window, chairman Daniel Levy replaced interim coach Ryan Mason with Ange Postecoglou, the Australian coach who won two consecutive Scottish championships with Celtic. Postecoglou also won the Asian Cup in 2015 with Australia and the Japanese championship in 2019 with Yokohama Marinos.
