The North-South Expressway through Nghe An is more than 87km long, divided into 2 component projects including Nghi Son - Dien Chau, nearly 50km long (Thanh Hoa 6.5km and Nghe An province 43.5km); Dien Chau - Bai Vot, more than 49km long, through 2 provinces of Nghe An (44.4km) and Ha Tinh (4.84km). Of which, the Nghi Son - Dien Chau route was opened to traffic on the occasion of September 2, 2023.
According to the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport, the Dien Chau - Bai Vot route must be open to traffic for about 30km, from the National Highway 7A intersection to the National Highway 46B intersection on the occasion of the April 30, 2024 holiday. Thus, the travel time from Vinh City to Hanoi on the expressway will only take more than 3 hours, much faster than traveling on the previous National Highway 1A.
Currently, the issue that many people are concerned about during the upcoming traffic opening ceremony is not only the location of the expressway's boarding and exit points, but also the location of the rest stops for people when needed on the expressway.
On April 25, speaking with reporters from Nghe An Newspaper, a representative of Project Management Board 6 - Ministry of Transport said that construction contractors and project supervision consultants are building temporary rest stops for people on the Nghi Son - Dien Chau and Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressways.
Specifically, there will be 3 temporary rest stops on these routes. For the Nghi Son - Dien Chau section, there will be 2 temporary rest stops installed on both sides of Truong Vinh tunnel connecting Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.
For the Dien Chau - Bai Vot route, there will be a temporary rest stop at the North of Than Vu tunnel, in Dien Chau district.
These temporary rest stops are installed in areas with quite spacious areas, convenient for people to stop and park their vehicles. Currently, the units are setting up items and signs.
In addition to the three temporary rest stops installed, at the exit and entry branches of the intersection with the current National Highways, there are gas stations and temporary rest stops to serve the needs of the people.
According to Project Management Board 6 - Ministry of Transport, setting up temporary rest stops is a temporary solution to serve the needs of the people, because the number of vehicles traveling on the highway during the upcoming holidays is expected to increase sharply when the highway is opened to traffic from the intersection of National Highway 46B, Hung Tay commune to Hanoi. These temporary rest stops are not official rest stops when the highway is completed in the future.
Accordingly, the official rest stop passing through Nghe An will be built by the Ministry of Transport at Km427, located in Dien Quang commune, about 3km before the intersection of National Highway 7A, Dien Chau district. The infrastructure here will be larger, more spacious and more fully equipped. Currently, the official rest stop is selecting investors and is expected to be constructed this year.
