On the night of April 2, due to the influence of cold air, the temperature in Buon Ma Thuot city dropped quite sharply. On the banks of the Serepok River, flowing through Hoa Phu commune, cold winds continuously blew in. Pointing to the downstream, Mr. Thieu recounted: “My brother has a small coffee shop located next to the Serepok River. At around 7:50 p.m., while my brothers and I were cleaning up the shop, we suddenly heard shouts and cries for help coming from the other side of the river. Guessing that someone was drowning, we quickly abandoned our work, ran to the riverbank, took the old boat that was usually used for decoration, created a space for customers to take pictures and tried to swim as quickly as possible to the middle of the river. We used our flashlights and gradually moved downstream, but because it was dark, the river was deep, the water flowed strongly, and there were many reeds and bushes on both sides, the search for the victim became more and more difficult. Faced with that situation, I called and asked comrade Nguyen Van Tuyen, Commander of the Commune Military Command, to increase forces and means to speed up the rescue work.”

Officers and soldiers of Hoa Phu Commune Military Command actively give first aid to drowning people.

At the Hoa Phu Commune Infirmary, Me Chi Thong, owner of the Song Serepok Essence Coffee Shop, put on a sweater to keep warm and shared: “While rowing the boat through the dense bushes, about 1.2 km from the original location, we discovered a woman trapped, half-submerged, half-floating near the riverbank. When we got closer to check, we saw that she was unconscious. My brothers and I quickly gave her first aid, warmed her up, and then informed everyone to come and help, and transferred her to the commune infirmary for emergency treatment. According to the doctors, the victim is now out of danger, and we are very happy.”

According to comrade Nguyen Van Tuyen, Commander of the Hoa Phu Commune Military Command, Thong previously served in the military, working at the Dak Lak Provincial Border Guard Command, and has just been discharged for more than a year. Thieu is the Platoon Leader of the Mobile Militia Platoon, very energetic, enthusiastic, and responsible for his work. Today (April 3), the Commune Military Command will make a proposal to the superiors to promptly commend and reward the brave actions of the two brothers, comrade Thieu and the mobile militia soldiers who directly participated in the rescue work.
