Contribute to building the homeland
Veteran Pham Xuan Dinh from Nghia An commune (Ninh Giang) enlisted in the army in early 1968 and was assigned to the Thanh Xuyen Battalion, protecting the Vietnam-Laos border at the Nam Can International Border Gate. In a large and complicated area, border guards like Mr. Dinh always clearly identified the ideology that "the post is home, the border is homeland, and the people of all ethnic groups are brothers and sisters". He still remembers the memories of capturing the American commando group with his comrades or the fierce and difficult times of capturing and chasing the enemy. After being discharged from the army and returning to his hometown, Mr. Dinh actively participated in many local movements.

He has worked in many positions in the village and commune for more than 20 years. He is currently the Vice President of the Elderly Association of Nghia An commune. Regardless of his position, Mr. Dinh is always a shining example of enthusiasm and responsibility, respected by local people. With the motto of living happily, healthily and usefully, Mr. Dinh has launched many cultural and sports movements suitable for the elderly, thereby promoting the movement "Physical training following the example of great Uncle Ho". He also deducts a part of his salary to give gifts and encourage lonely elderly people and elderly people in difficult circumstances in the commune.

Mr. Dinh said: "Keeping the oath to our comrades that if we return alive, we will dedicate ourselves to our homeland, we are determined to maintain the spirit and will of soldiers even in peacetime."

Many former border guards who are dynamic, daring to think and act have become typical examples of good economic development. A typical example is Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong in Hai Duong City, currently the Director of Hong Ha Plastic Enterprise. Mr. Cuong was once assigned to the Armed Police Command, then transferred to Chua Ve Port (Hai Phong City). After being discharged from the army and returning to his hometown, Mr. Cuong was determined to follow his family's traditional profession of plastic production. In 1999, he invested in production lines, equipment, and expanded the production scale. Up to now, his facility has created jobs for more than 100 workers with stable income. Products are not only exported domestically but also consumed in many countries such as the US, Japan, Korea, etc.

Warm comradeship

Former border guard Pham Xuan Dinh in Nghia An commune (Ninh Giang) is a shining example of promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers.

The Border Guard Traditional Liaison Committee of Hai Duong Province, formerly the 1959 Military Council, was established in 1989 with 5 members. After 35 years of operation, the Liaison Committee now has nearly 2,000 members participating in the Liaison Committees of 12 districts, towns and cities in the province and 2 Military Councils. Among them, many former border guards were elected to hold positions such as Party Secretary, Chairman of the Veterans Association of communes, wards and towns, Head of villages and residential areas, etc., and are still tirelessly contributing to the common work in the locality.

Former border guard Vu Manh Khoi in Hai Tan ward (Hai Duong city), currently the Head of the Border Guard Tradition Liaison Committee of Hai Duong province, is a shining example for his comrades and future generations. Mr. Khoi joined the army in 1975 and was assigned to the Quang Ninh armed police force, protecting the Vietnam-China border in Mong Cai area. After being discharged from the army and returning to his locality, he actively participated in activities at the Border Guard Tradition Liaison Committee of the province, working with members to develop the organization and members, focusing on charity activities, caring for and visiting members in difficulty, encouraging members to develop the economy, etc.

On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Border Guard's Traditional Day (March 3, 1959 - March 3, 2024), the provincial and district Liaison Committees organized exchange activities, meetings, visited cemeteries, and presented gifts to former border guards, relatives of martyrs, etc. Mr. Vu Manh Khoi, Head of the Provincial Border Guard's Traditional Liaison Committee, said: "The Traditional Day is an opportunity for comrades and teammates to meet, review traditions, and encourage each other to continue to uphold and promote the qualities of revolutionary soldiers in everyday life. At the same time, it demonstrates the local military rear policy for former border guards, reassuring Hai Duong border guards working across the country."

Implementing the policy of the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh, on March 3, 1959, the Prime Minister issued Decree No. 100/TTg establishing the People's Armed Police Force - now the Border Guard. This is an important event, marking the birth of the Border Guard - the armed force specializing in protecting the national border; affirming the maturity and development of the people's armed forces in the cause of strengthening national defense and protecting the Fatherland. March 3 every year has become the Border Guard's Traditional Day. On June 17, 2003, the National Assembly chose March 3 every year as the National Border Guard Day.
