Opening the conference, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan assessed: Vietnam's dental and maxillofacial industry is constantly updating new and advanced techniques in many specialized fields. This is also one of the few industries that has not only succeeded in keeping patients from going abroad, but also attracted overseas Vietnamese and foreigners to Vietnam for medical treatment. One of the reasons is that the quality of treatment is not inferior to that of countries in the region and the world while the cost is only 30 - 40%.
To best protect your teeth, each person needs to brush their teeth at least twice a day.
Regarding common oral diseases, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Cao Binh, President of the Vietnam Association of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery, Director of the Central Hospital of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery (Hanoi), said that the rate of oral diseases such as tooth decay, gingivitis, and periodontitis among Vietnamese people is very high. According to research, 90% of Vietnamese people have oral diseases, while the rate of people who go for regular dental check-ups in a year is very low, only about 7%. Most people go to the dentist when they have symptoms of swelling, pain, and inflammation, so treatment is often expensive and complicated.
Notably, up to 85% of children have cavities in their baby teeth. Cavities in permanent teeth also increase with age. In adults, more than 80% have gingivitis and periodontitis. These diseases are the main causes of early tooth loss.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Cao Binh added that people often have the habit of waking up, brushing their teeth, and then eating breakfast right after. However, to help teeth become stronger, there should be a time gap compared to the time of brushing teeth. Specifically, after brushing teeth, eat 2 hours. The reason is because toothpaste contains sodium fluoride (also known as fluorine) which helps protect teeth. When brushing teeth and then eating, fluoride will be eliminated, not remaining in saliva and cannot penetrate the teeth to protect tooth enamel.
To best protect your teeth, each person needs to brush their teeth at least twice a day. Brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes each time. Limit eating for about 2 hours after brushing your teeth. Have a dental check-up twice a year.
