In Thai Nguyen City, there are currently 112 irrigation works, including 6 works managed and exploited by Thai Nguyen Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. and 106 works managed by the city. In recent times, Thai Nguyen City People's Committee has always focused on management and investment in renovating and repairing irrigation works to promote efficiency and meet irrigation tasks for agricultural production.

For effective exploitation and operation, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen City has assigned localities to manage 106 irrigation works in the area. Among them are 27 reservoirs, 74 pumping stations and 5 dams. The works are currently providing irrigation water for about 10,000 hectares per year (including rice and tea areas).
Communes and wards have established irrigation teams, each team (with 3 members) manages 1 project, regulating water resources to serve agricultural production for people.
Every year, the City People's Committee coordinates to organize training courses on knowledge of management, exploitation and protection of irrigation works for 100% of irrigation team staff in the area.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Hung, Head of Khuon Nam Hamlet, Head of the Irrigation Team of Doc Lay Pumping Station, Phuc Xuan Commune, said: Doc Lay Pumping Station was built and put into use more than 10 years ago, meeting the irrigation water needs for about 10 hectares of rice and tea of the people in the hamlet. To serve the irrigation needs of the people, the Team has divided specific tasks for each member to directly pump water, and at the same time mobilized people to dredge canals to bring water to the fields when the crop season comes. This spring, the areas where people grow rice have been pumped with enough water. Some households are taking advantage of the time to pump water for the tea area to prepare for the first harvest of the year.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Xuan Commune, said: There are 2 pumping stations in the commune, Doc Lay and Dong Noi, which provide irrigation for an area of over 400 hectares for both crops. In addition to scientific management and operation, when detecting damage to irrigation works, irrigation teams report to local authorities for inspection and propose to the City People's Committee to arrange funds for repair and maintenance.
In 2024, at Doc Lay Pumping Station, the City People's Committee invested in building an additional tank, with a capacity of more than 80m3, to increase the pressure and flow of water from the source, ensuring timely irrigation water for people.
To promote the effectiveness of irrigation works, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen City directed specialized agencies and localities to regularly inspect, review, and detect damage for timely repair, with an average budget of about 15 billion VND per year. At the same time, it directed localities to improve their capacity in natural disaster prevention; strictly manage water resources, use economically, and store water in works, especially in ponds and lakes to ensure water sources for production...
According to the representative of the professional agency of Thai Nguyen City, currently, irrigation works in the area basically meet the irrigation needs for production. This helps increase the value of agricultural production; 100% of communes building advanced and model new rural areas meet the irrigation criteria.
In 2024, the product value per hectare of agricultural land in the city will reach 170 million VND; the output of fresh tea buds will reach over 23,200 tons; the production value per hectare of commercial tea land will reach nearly 1 billion VND...
