According to information from Thanh Hoa provincial leaders, from the beginning of September 2024 until now, the province has been continuously affected by 2 storms (storms No. 3 and No. 4). Along with that, there have been many heavy rains and prolonged floods causing flooding in low-lying areas, riverside areas, river banks and landslides in many locations.
Due to the impact of storms No. 3 and No. 4 and other weather patterns causing rain, from September 6 to 23, Thanh Hoa province experienced many widespread heavy rains. Heavy rains in the province combined with floods from upstream caused a flood on river banks in the province, causing flooding in many low-lying areas and landslides in many locations.
In September 2024, Thanh Hoa province was severely affected by natural disasters, killing 1 person, injuring 2 people; causing damage to agricultural production, education, transport infrastructure... about 430 billion VND. The damage caused by the flood caused by storm No. 4 and the current rain and flood has not been estimated yet because there are still floods.
The province has urgently mobilized maximum resources to support social security work, restore production, quickly overcome damage to housing and some infrastructure works...
Present in Lang Chanh district, the Deputy Prime Minister visited teachers and students of Lam Phu Secondary School, Lam Phu commune - the school suffered landslides and collapsed foundations due to heavy rains and floods while under construction. Currently, teachers and students have to temporarily move to Lam Phu Primary School (7 km away).
Regarding the landslide incident (about a week ago) at Lam Phu Secondary School under construction, the leaders of the district People's Committee proposed that the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee issue a decision to declare an emergency situation at this landslide site; at the same time, temporarily suspend activities at the school, urgently move more than 300 students to a new school to ensure safety.
Also this morning, checking the results of handling the incident of the No culvert breaking in the Ma River dike village, Vinh An commune, Vinh Loc district during the recent flood, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha praised the military, police, militia and self-defense forces... and the people for detecting it very early, protecting the dike in time, not affecting more than 40,000 people.
Here, the Deputy Prime Minister requested that localities urgently assess the entire resilience of the dike system along the Ma River.
Visiting and presenting gifts to flooded households in Ngoc Bo village, Kim Tan town, Thach Thanh district, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha requested district leaders to have a plan to arrange resettlement areas or build houses in a way that can withstand and live with floods.
The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated Thanh Hoa province's proactiveness and positivity in preventing and overcoming the consequences of floods caused by storms No. 3 and No. 4.
"For issues beyond the capacity of the locality, the Central Government will continue to pay attention and support what needs to be done immediately, to soon stabilize people's lives back to normal, especially essential social infrastructure works such as transportation, education, healthcare...", the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
