Previously, Mr. Le Van Chuong's family (Can Tom village, Hong Thuong commune, A Luoi district) had difficult circumstances because of developing small-scale, fragmented livestock and crop farming. In recent years, by investing in large-scale yellow cattle farming, Mr. Chuong's family has become well-off from a poor household thanks to a stable income.
"In the past, my family raised cows, but the number was small, so the income was only like labor, so life was very difficult. Since receiving guidance and support from authorities and organizations at all levels, I have boldly invested in developing a large-scale yellow cow farm, with hundreds of cows. Currently, the yellow cow farming model brings in a profit of about 100 million VND per year," Mr. Chuong happily said.
Similar to Mr. Chuong's family, many households in Hong Thuong commune have escaped poverty from difficult economic circumstances thanks to developing yellow cattle farming. According to the Hong Thuong Commune Farmers' Association, in the past, people in the commune mainly developed small-scale cattle farming, each family only raised 1-2 cows, so the economic efficiency was not high. Since the district had a policy of developing large-scale yellow cattle farming and strictly applying science and technology, the number of yellow cattle in the locality has increased in quantity and quality.
Currently, Hong Thuong is one of the localities with the largest number of yellow cows in A Luoi district. The whole commune has dozens of households raising yellow cows in large numbers, the total herd in the commune has reached more than 1,000 cows. The yellow cow raising model has become an effective and sustainable poverty reduction model for many households.
The highland people's farming methods and unique weather conditions have created the unique flavor of A Luoi yellow beef.
A Luoi yellow cow is a native yellow cow breed, with small, smooth meat fibers and is raised naturally, so the meat quality is delicious. The farming methods of the highland people and the special weather conditions have created the unique flavor of A Luoi yellow beef.
Since 2021, A Luoi yellow beef has been recognized as a 3-star OCOP product. Also in this year, the A Luoi District Farmers' Association was assigned to prepare a dossier to apply for a collective trademark certificate and a logo symbolizing "A Luoi yellow beef".
In February 2023, "A Luoi Golden Beef" was granted a protection certificate by the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology). This is a good condition and opportunity for the district to introduce and promote A Luoi Golden Beef to the market and promote planned livestock farming activities, bringing high efficiency to households and protecting consumer interests.
At the same time, the People's Committee of A Luoi district is implementing a project to develop the cattle herd in the district for the period 2023-2025 with a total budget of more than 33.5 billion VND. According to the set target, by the end of 2025, the total cattle herd in A Luoi district will reach 12,000. From 2023 to 2025, about 1,800 heifers will be imported into the district (including yellow cows and crossbred cows with 25% foreign blood), and at the same time, about 1,200 cows will be inseminated by artificial insemination.
Since A Luoi district has a policy of developing large-scale yellow cattle breeding and strictly applying science and technology, the number of yellow cattle in the locality has increased in quantity and quality.
To develop sustainable cattle breeding, the district conducts training for farmers, technicians and veterinary staff at the grassroots level. In the district, 45 hectares of new grass will be planted, and ineffective rice growing areas will be converted to corn, sweet potatoes, legumes, etc. to create a source of food for cattle breeding.
Currently, A Luoi district has a total herd of nearly 20,000 cattle, of which more than 13,000 are cows. Along with the development of the quantity and quality of the yellow cattle herd, in recent times, A Luoi agricultural product stores have been formed, contributing to promoting agricultural products here, in which yellow beef is one of the local specialties with diverse products such as fresh beef, dried beef, sun-dried beef, etc.
A Luoi yellow beef products have become one of the most popular items for tourists when visiting this mountainous district. At the same time, at many agricultural stores and fairs in the lowlands, especially in Hue City, A Luoi yellow beef products are popular with consumers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai - Vice Chairman of A Luoi District People's Committee said: In the coming time, the district will strengthen propaganda for people about livestock development, including yellow cattle farming. The district also thoroughly educates people about ensuring the quality and origin of beef to maintain the product brand, develop the consumption market, thereby helping yellow cattle farmers in the area to develop a sustainable economy.
