VnExpressVnExpress30/05/2023

Phu Tho A 5th grade female student in Tam Nong district was beaten and forced to kneel in the middle of the class on the closing day, because she criticized a 7th grade female student for her ugly and flashy makeup.

On the morning of May 30, Mr. Le Trung Huyen, chairman of Hien Quan commune, confirmed that the video recording the scene of a female student being grabbed by the hair and slapped by a friend happened on May 29, in class 5E, Hien Quan Primary School.

In the video, the victim was forced to kneel and apologize, and had dirt smeared on his face. He cried and apologized, but was still beaten by his classmates. Other students watched and filmed the clip, but did not intervene or report it to the teacher.

Mr. Huyen said that at that time, class 5E had just finished the class summary and said goodbye for summer vacation. The teachers were in a meeting in the school office and did not know.

"The student who was beaten was in 5th grade, and the student who beat her friend was in 7th grade. The video was recorded by another 5th grade student and posted online by a 7th grade female student," said Mr. Huyen, adding that the reason was because the 5th grade student criticized the 7th grade female student for wearing ugly and flashy makeup.

"Out of anger at being criticized, a 7th grader from the neighboring school went over to beat a 5th grader," Mr. Huyen said.

Yesterday afternoon, local authorities and police met with the school and the students’ families to find out what happened. The students were asked not to repeat similar fights.

According to Mr. Huyen, the two female students are related, the beaten one is the cousin of the person who beat her. This morning, the commune and the school sent people to the two students' homes to stabilize their mental health. The health and mental state of the beaten female student are currently stable.

"Both families also asked the local authorities to resolve the matter internally and educate their children. The student who beat his friend has admitted his mistake and apologized," said Mr. Huyen.

There have been a series of student fights in recent years in many localities. On May 15, a 10th grader at Nam Ky Khoi Nghia High School in Ho Chi Minh City was beaten by a friend and hospitalized. Previously, on April 29, a group of three students from My Luong Primary School in Chuong My District in Hanoi invited a friend to the village cultural house, forced her to kneel, and slapped her. The beaten female student is said to have taken off her clothes to ask for forgiveness from her friends.

The Ministry of Education and Training estimates that nearly 7,100 students will be involved in school violence in 2022. According to the Ministry's regulations, disciplinary action for students who violate the law currently includes three forms: warning, reprimand, and temporary suspension from school.
