Director Nguyen Huu Phan passed away on May 22 due to old age and serious illness. His passing left many colleagues shocked and saddened.
People's Artist Nguyen Huu Phan, born in 1948, was the director behind many "classic" TV series on rural themes, including "Land and People", "Village Ghosts", "Gio Lang Kinh", "Ghost Village 10 Years Later"...
He is so passionate and attached to rural topics that he is nicknamed "Mr. Village Ghost Part" and "Mr. Rural Part".
His works made the names of many actors such as Duy Hau, Han Van Tinh, Phat Trieu, Duy Thanh, Bui Bai Binh, Trung Hieu...
When he was a film director, he had works such as: "Love song in the night", "Do you still remember or have you forgotten"... During his career, he was especially close to actor Le Cong Tuan Anh.
During his lifetime, People's Artist Nguyen Huu Phan had the opportunity to collaborate with Le Cong Tuan Anh when embarking on a film project about Trinh Cong Son - "Do you still remember or have you forgotten?"
Later, the last film that Le Cong Tuan Anh participated in was "Sweet and Deceptive" also directed by People's Artist Nguyen Huu Phan.
The actor passed away while the film was airing in 1997. Director Nguyen Huu Phan was the one who wrote and read the eulogy at Le Cong Tuan Anh's funeral.
The director once said about Le Cong Tuan Anh: "We love Le Cong Tuan Anh because he is gentle, professional, meticulous and very emotional. Every time he goes to Hanoi to film, he comes to my house. We talk, share and confide in each other a lot. Le Cong Tuan Anh is an artist full of loneliness."
At the time of filming “Do You Still Remember or Do You Have Forgotten”, Nguyen Huu Phan had to borrow money everywhere to make the film. At that time, Le Cong Tuan Anh was a popular star, receiving a salary of 30 million VND/film in the early 1900s.
But after listening to director Nguyen Huu Phan present the idea, role, and script for "Do you still remember or have you forgotten", Le Cong Tuan Anh happily accepted to play the male lead role of Quang Son with a salary of 5 million VND.
The film "Do You Still Remember or Have You Forgotten" is an important milestone in the careers of both directors Nguyen Huu Phan and Le Cong Tuan Anh.
The work is inspired by the content of 11 songs composed by musician Trinh Cong Son, revolving around soldier Quang Son (Le Cong Tuan Anh) and his passion for music.
The film was a huge success with four Silver Lotus awards and awards for Best Actor, Music and Screenplay.
Throughout his career, People's Artist Nguyen Huu Phan always mentioned Le Cong Tuan Anh as a close, intimate younger brother. Every time he went to Hanoi to film, Le Cong Tuan Anh stayed at his house.
He once sadly talked about the late actor who died young: "I had a relationship with Le Cong Tuan Anh, spent many years with him, I understand why he chose to leave like that. Le Cong Tuan Anh's last film was also the film I made."
