A fairy tale just happened in a small town in France, when a rich man in Paris unexpectedly left a huge fortune.
Recently, Thiberville, a small town in Normandy, France, unexpectedly inherited a fortune of $10.2 million from Roger Thiberville, a wealthy Parisian who was completely unknown to the locals.
Roger Thiberville died last year at the age of 91 without an heir, The Guardian reported. He had never visited the town, but decided to leave his fortune to the community of just 1,773 people simply because it shared his family name.
“This is an unbelievable amount of money,” Thiberville Mayor Guy Paris told local radio. At more than five times the town’s annual budget, Paris said the gift would be managed carefully and responsibly.

One of the first goals is to forgive a $400,000 bank loan to build a new school. The mayor also suggested that the money could be used to create community facilities like a community garden, boules and soccer fields – dreams that were previously out of reach for the town.
Roger Thiberville is known to have worked as a meteorologist and lived modestly in Paris. He inherited a family real estate portfolio, but had no personal ties to the town of the same name. In particular, he requested that his ashes be interred in the local cemetery.
The town of Thiberville, once described by The Guardian as "nothing special", has now attracted attention thanks to this special gift.
Under French law, this generous gift is exempt from inheritance tax, opening a new chapter of potential for the community here.
"Mr. Thiberville doesn't ask for anything, but we owe him at least respect and gratitude," said Mayor Guy Paris.
Roger Thiberville's gift not only changed the face of the small town but also became a rare story that made a strong impression on the whole of France.
