The 0-1 defeat to Liverpool in the 33rd round of the Premier League on April 20th caused the "Foxes" to be relegated after only one year of returning to the tournament. The 2016 Premier League champions went through a terrible period when they lost 9 consecutive home matches without scoring a single goal, a record in English football.

Striker Vardy has also not been in good form this season. He has only scored 7 goals in 31 appearances. On his personal page, Vardy shared his pain when Leicester was relegated: "At this moment, I don't know what to say. There are no words to describe my anger and sadness about this season."

"There is no excuse for failure. We, as players and as a club, have failed. There is no escaping that. This season has brought only sadness and shame. This result hurts me and the team. I apologise to the fans that we could not perform well, I apologise that we ended the 2025 season with a disappointing performance," Vardy continued.

Vardy has pledged to stay at the club even if he has to play in the Championship next season. He has spent 13 seasons with the club, scoring 198 goals in 495 appearances.

Leicester's relegation has left the club facing the risk of losing several of its stars. Head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy could also be sacked after disappointing results. Leicester are targeting Sheffield Wednesday's Danny Rohl as their next manager.

Leicester are currently 19th in the table with 18 points from 33 games. The Foxes will visit Wolves this weekend.
