The new seedless grape variety NH04-102 has high yield, quality and income 2-3 times higher than grape varieties grown in Ninh Thuan province. The NH04-102 grape variety has a growing period from cutting to harvest of about 117-125 days, depending on the crop. NH04-102 grape variety is seedless fresh grapes, can be used for drying, when ripe the fruit is black, high sugar content (16-20 degrees Brix), thick skin, characteristic aroma and beautiful fruit appearance. The quality of NH04-102 grape variety is equivalent to the same type of grape products imported from abroad into the Vietnamese market.
With a grape growing area of over 1,100 hectares, an average annual output of about 25,000 tons of commercial fruit, Ninh Thuan has become the capital of grapes and grape growing in the country. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tri in Nhon Son commune, Ninh Son district, is a young farmer who is a pioneer in introducing the new seedless grape variety NH04-102 for experimental planting in Dac Nhon 3 village. According to Mr. Tri, with the support of Nha Ho Institute staff for seedlings and technical guidance on cultivating the "black finger" grape variety, he prepared the soil to plant young grape seedlings and grafted branches from November 2021. After a year of organic farming, he started cutting branches, allowing the NH04-102 grape to flower from December 2022 and by early April 2023 the fruit began to ripen. On average, each bunch weighs 300 - 500 grams, the fruit flesh is crispy, has a characteristic aroma, a slightly sweet and sour taste, is seedless, and is dark purple when ripe.
With an area of 1.5 sao, Mr. Tri planted 400 NH04-102 grape trees with an investment capital of about 50 million VND/sao, the yield reached 1.5 tons. Tourists and traders coming to the garden can experience cutting bunches of grapes themselves, the price of grapes sold at the garden is up to 250,000 VND/kg, 3 - 4 times higher than the old grape varieties. NH04-102 grape garden of Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tri's family has become an attractive destination for tourists in and outside the province. The young farmer has become the first person to successfully grow NH04-102 grape variety, a seedless grape variety in Nhon Son commune, which is also the "headquarters" of Nha Ho Institute. In the first fruit crop, Mr. Tri's seedless grape garden earned over 300 million VND. He continued to invest in expanding the area of NH04-102 grape variety by 4 more sao, growing in a greenhouse, cultivating a biological organic model in Lang Ngua village, Nhon Son commune.
During the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025, Mr. Tri's family farm attracted many tourists to visit, take photos and experience the "black finger" grape variety with a selling price of 200,000 VND/kg. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tri expressed his joy when hearing that the new grape variety NH 04-102 of Nha Ho Institute was officially allowed to be put into mass production, creating conditions for his family to continue investing in planting 4 more sao of grapes this year.
“Nha Ho Institute builds a parent garden and completes the documents to submit to the competent authority for evaluation and recognition of the parent garden as a basis for organizing production and providing a source of seedlings that ensure quality standards to serve the expansion of grape production in the coming time. The high-quality seedless grape variety NH04-102 is allowed to be developed in production and is granted a new plant variety protection certificate that is competitive enough for fresh grapes in the domestic market and will be exported in the near future. Nha Ho Institute is preserving over 230 grape varieties in the gene pool group garden, with different exploitation and use purposes, including: fresh grapes, wine grapes, seedless grapes (dried), grapes specialized for rootstock and grapes specialized for leaves.
In the coming time, the research and selection of new grape varieties with high productivity and quality, Nha Ho Institute will actively contribute to the development of special crop products of Ninh Thuan province and the South Central Coast provinces.
