In mid-September, when the aftermath of storm No. 3 was still severe, many areas in Northern Vietnam, especially Yen Bai province, suffered huge losses in terms of human lives and property. In the midst of the urgent need for help, a volunteer group from Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province, in collaboration with HOPE FOR TOMORROW and other benefactors, organized a meaningful relief trip to help people here overcome difficulties.
Join hands to help after the storm
On September 19-20, 2024, the Cam Lo volunteer group, led by Ms. Dao Doan, nun Hau Lien, and Mr. Truong Sinh, raised more than 300 million VND in cash and more than 200 gifts, each worth up to 1 million VND. These gifts were delivered directly to the flood victims in Van Yen district, one of the areas most severely affected by the storm. Van Yen district is located in the mountainous area of Yen Bai province, where the majority of the Dao ethnic group depends on cinnamon cultivation for their livelihood. Storm No. 3 caused serious damage, breaking a series of cinnamon trees - the main source of income for the victims, making their lives extremely difficult. In addition, the roads were damaged, making travel and relief more complicated. In particular, many residential areas are still isolated, causing serious disruption to the lives of the victims.
Delivering relief gifts to the people
During two days of active activities, the volunteer group, along with members of Piekup 74 Club, overcame landslides and difficult roads to bring loving relief gifts to the people of Quang Minh and Tan Hop communes, Van Yen district, Yen Bai province. Here, more than 300 households received relief gifts, including 300 million VND in cash and 300 gifts of necessities. Each gift included essential necessities such as rice, instant noodles, cooking oil, fish sauce, and clothes. Not only that, the volunteer group also donated 50 million VND to 5 households in especially difficult circumstances in Yen Bai city. These households all suffered serious damage to their houses after the storm, and this support money will help them repair their houses, ensuring safe shelter from the changes in the weather. Many people in the area had to travel a long distance, some even riding motorbikes more than 7 km, to gather at the Commune People's Committee to receive relief gifts. Despite the difficult roads and unfavorable weather, the warmth from the gifts brought comfort to families in dire straits.
Kind hearts
This charity trip could not have been possible without the contributions of philanthropists and the HOPE FOR TOMORROW Association. This is the third time in 2024 that the association has organized relief activities in areas severely damaged by natural disasters, and this time, they have accompanied the Cam Lo volunteer group to directly support people in Yen Bai. Ms. Dao Doan, the head of the fundraising work, said: “We always want to bring a little light, a little hope to difficult circumstances, especially after severe natural disasters. Each gift, no matter how small, contains the affection and sharing of many people.”
Along with Mrs. Doan, nun Hau Lien and Mr. Truong Sinh also made great contributions in connecting charitable people and calling for help from everywhere. Golden hearts from all over the country joined hands and contributed to organize a meaningful and timely relief program.
Hope for the future
Although natural disasters are always undesirable, humanity and mutual support have become bright spots in these difficult days. With the joint efforts of individuals and charitable organizations, such as the Cam Lo volunteer group, the HOPE FOR TOMORROW Association, and philanthropists, the mountainous people of Yen Bai province have gained more strength to continue to overcome life's challenges. Storm No. 3 not only swept away many things, but also left an imprint on the spirit of solidarity and love in the community. In the coming time, organizations and individuals will continue to join hands to support areas that are still suffering from natural disasters, ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey to overcome the consequences and rebuild their lives.
Mr. Nhat Quang, a member of the Quang Tri Literature and Arts Association, was invited to join the meditation group and shared with reporters: “The volunteer trip of the Cam Lo group and the HOPE FOR TOMORROW Association is a clear demonstration of the spirit of “helping each other”, a core value in Vietnamese culture. In the most difficult circumstances, humanity shines even brighter, helping people connect and overcome adversity together. I believe that such charitable activities not only help people in times of need but also create trust, hope and solidarity in the community. I really appreciate and am moved by the efforts and affection of those who have devoted their time, effort and love to the difficult circumstances in the mountainous areas of Yen Bai province. Hopefully this spirit will continue to spread and become a source of motivation for other individuals and organizations to join hands for the community.”
