Reduce labor, increase income
In the 2024 Winter Crop, Phu My Agricultural Service Cooperative (Tu Lap Commune, Me Linh District) coordinated with the District Agricultural Service Center to implement the model "Demonstration of new potato varieties with high productivity, quality, and climate change adaptation". The model has the support of the Hanoi Agricultural Extension Center with a scale of 10 hectares of Atlantic white potatoes.
Deputy Director of Phu My Agricultural Service Cooperative Nguyen Van Chung shared: "People are very excited because growing potatoes is very easy, just put the seed tubers down at the beginning of the season and then pick up the commercial tubers at the end of the season because all the stages have been mechanized from land preparation, bed making to harvesting, spraying with drones (unmanned aircraft). Calculating the whole season, each sao of farmers only spends 3-4 labors, while the estimated profit is about 3 million VND."
In Thach That district, in recent years, mechanization has also been promoted in agricultural production. According to Tran Duc Thanh, Head of the Economic Department of Thach That district, in the 2024 Spring crop, the district will support 50% of the cost for agricultural cooperatives in Dai Dong, Huong Ngai, Di Nau, Thach Xa, Ha Bang communes... to buy 6 transplanters using the city's additional funding to serve agricultural production. Thanks to that, the area sown by machine in the 2024 Spring crop will reach 388 hectares, an increase of 154 hectares compared to the 2023 Spring crop.
The assessment report of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development shows that the whole city currently has 5,676 land preparation machines, 990 pesticide sprayers, 877 combine harvesters... Up to now, the mechanization in land preparation in Hanoi has reached 100%. The area of rice harvested by machine has reached 90%.
Over the years, the city has always encouraged farmers and cooperatives to actively mechanize agricultural production, especially synchronous mechanization in rice production. Practical results have proven that mechanization has many benefits, helping to increase productivity, reduce input costs, save seeds and pesticides, reduce post-harvest losses, and ensure seasonality.
Continued support and replication
However, the mechanization of agricultural production still faces difficulties such as: agricultural production is highly risky, so it has not attracted individual households to participate in the synchronous mechanization process; farmers have difficulty accessing modern machinery because there are not many domestic enterprises producing agricultural machinery and equipment, mainly imported goods from abroad, so the selling price is high.
Hanoi needs to organize agricultural production in accordance with machinery and mechanized equipment. Along with that, develop the machinery, equipment, technology manufacturing industry and supporting industries for agricultural mechanization... Only then will the mechanization program in agricultural production be successful and limit risks in production.
Director of National Agricultural Extension Center Le Quoc Thanh
Regarding this issue, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Manh Phuong said that Hanoi aims to have concentrated agricultural production areas basically mechanized and synchronized mechanization by 2025. Specifically, mechanization in the sowing stage is 15%, the care stage is 60%, the harvesting stage is 95%... To complete this goal, the city supports organizations, households and individuals with 100% of management fees when purchasing machinery and mechanical equipment for agricultural production through loan contracts of the City Agricultural Promotion Fund, 100% of interest according to the loan contract.
Accordingly, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development directed the Hanoi Agricultural Extension Center to continue to develop and deploy models of mechanization in production; appraise and disburse loans to households from the Agricultural Extension Fund to purchase machinery and mechanical equipment to improve quality, reduce post-harvest losses, create diverse, high-quality products to meet market demand; strengthen information, propaganda, dissemination, training, introduction of machinery and mechanical equipment, and instructions on how to use them for people.
The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that localities need to specify policies on mechanization to encourage enterprises, cooperatives, farms, and production households to participate in implementation.
In addition, to continue promoting mechanization of agricultural production, localities need to improve rural infrastructure, intra-field traffic, and drainage systems; promote land accumulation and concentration, facilitate the application of mechanization in production, meet the requirements of agricultural development in the direction of large-scale concentrated commodities; encourage people to proactively invest in purchasing machinery and applying mechanization in cultivation, livestock breeding, and aquaculture to improve production efficiency.
