The time for the 2 subjects of Math and Literature is 120 minutes each, and the foreign language is 90 minutes.

The number of candidates taking the 10th grade exam has decreased sharply.

Ho Chi Minh City is expected to have 89,649 junior high school graduates in the 2024-2025 school year, including 88,921 from the junior high school program and 728 from the supplementary program. Compared to the previous school year, the number of junior high school graduates was 116,296, of which nearly 100,000 took the public 10th grade entrance exam. With this figure, the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year is expected to decrease by more than 26,000 candidates.

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year is the first 10th grade exam under the new curriculum with many important changes. Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced the sample exam structure so that students have time to familiarize themselves, review, and prepare for the exam.

From the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will stop enrolling specialized 10th grade students in regular high schools: Gia Dinh (Binh Thanh District), Mac Dinh Chi (District 6), Nguyen Thuong Hien (Tan Binh District) and Nguyen Huu Huan (Thu Duc City).

Combining survey and admission to grade 6

Meanwhile, regarding admission to grade 6, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to conduct in 2 forms: Conducting a survey to assess capacity; based on training and learning results at primary level and using data from GIS maps to allocate students.

Specifically, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School and some local secondary schools can conduct admission based on a combination of two criteria, including training and learning results in primary school years and the results of capacity assessment surveys. In particular, local secondary schools must simultaneously meet two requirements: Having a number of candidates registering exceeding the enrollment quota in recent years and being proposed by the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, districts and counties.

The remaining secondary schools conduct admission based on the results of training and learning at the primary level and use data from GIS maps to serve the allocation of students. In particular, the admission areas of the schools are decided by the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, districts, and counties according to the actual situation in the locality.

Previously, Thu Duc City was the earliest locality in Ho Chi Minh City to announce its plan to enroll students in grade 6. Specifically, Thu Duc continued to conduct a survey to enroll in grade 6 at the 3 "hottest" schools in the city.

Mr. Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, said that the locality continues to build and develop schools that implement high-quality, advanced educational content, regional and international integration. Thu Duc City also implements the strategic plan for education and training development, meeting the goals and tasks of socio-economic development in the area.

The Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City plans to continue organizing entrance exams for grade 6 students who want to study at Tran Quoc Toan 1, Hoa Lu, and Binh Tho secondary schools in the 2025-2026 school year. Specifically, entrance exams for grade 6 students at these 3 schools will be conducted by reviewing application documents and taking an aptitude test. Each school will be a testing site, depending on the number of registered students.

The schools will be organized to conduct the survey on the same day, with the same questions, which will be handled by the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City. The survey papers of the 3 schools will be centralized at the survey marking council. Students participating in the survey at any school will contact to submit their registration documents at that school, and can only register and submit their documents at one school.

All candidates will take a 90-minute aptitude test, with the expected quota including: Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School will recruit 9 grade 6 classes with 315 students, Hoa Lu Secondary School will recruit 7 grade 6 classes with 245 students, Binh Tho Secondary School will recruit 8 grade 6 classes with 280 students. The subjects and conditions for admission are all students who have completed primary school, wish to study grade 6 in Thu Duc City, and have an average score at the end of the year in math and Vietnamese of 9 or higher.

Mr. Nguyen said that the early announcement of information is to help parents and students prepare carefully. In addition, the leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City also requested that Tran Quoc Toan 1, Hoa Lu and Binh Tho Secondary Schools provide information and images introducing the school through various media for parents to find out when needed.

Continue to propose recruitment by survey

Last school year, Ho Chi Minh City had 6 schools enrolling 6th grade students using a competency assessment test, including: Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1); Nguyen An Khuong Secondary School (Hoc Mon District); Hoa Lu Secondary School, Binh Tho Secondary School, Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School (Thu Duc City); Nguyen Huu Tho Secondary School (District 7).

The head of an education and training department said that in 2025, he will continue to propose to the district People's Committee to allow students to continue enrolling in grade 6 through a test at one school, while also building a roadmap to become an advanced school. According to him, students who do not pass the test will still be assigned to other schools according to the regulations of the primary school admission steering committee.
