Although the Meka rice fields have a lot of boulders, people have kept them to grow rice for the past few decades, not allowing quarrymen to take them away.
Following the instructions of Mr. Tran Van Dung - Vice Chairman of Da Tong Commune People's Committee (Dam Rong District, Lam Dong), Dan Viet reporter arrived at Meka rice field (Meka hamlet, Da Tong commune). This is a very special rice field in Da Tong commune because there are many large and small jagged rocks, but the local people still grow rice and develop the economy.
According to Mr. Dung, the Meka rice field is about 20 hectares wide, and many households are growing rice. Currently, the Da Tong commune government is planning to include this rice field in the agricultural tourism development program, increasing income for the people.
Present at his family's rice field, Mr. Kon Nhong Ha Ben (57 years old, Cil ethnic group) said that his family has been cultivating rice in the Meka rice field for the past few decades. Although the field has many rocks, there is an abundant water source next to Da Tong stream, so it helps to cultivate rice effectively, meeting the food needs of his family.
The rice fields are full of jagged rocks, but families like Mr. Ben do not take them away but only remove small rocks from the fields to make fields and fences. In addition, Da Tong commune officials also advise people not to take the rocks away but to keep them intact, creating a landscape to develop tourism.
Meanwhile, Ms. Lieng Hot Ka Them, 41 years old, Cil ethnic group shared: "Since growing up, I have seen my parents grow rice in the Meka rice fields. Until now, I still continue to grow rice the way my parents do. In the past, although many stone miners came to ask to take stones from the fields, our people did not allow it, we had to keep it intact for future tourism. If we let them take the stones, we would not be able to grow rice anymore, the fields would turn into lakes."
The Meka rice field of about 20 hectares is now planted by people for the Winter-Spring crop.
Mr. Tran Van Dung - Vice Chairman of Da Tong Commune People's Committee said that the commune has tourist attractions such as hot springs, Da Tong stone church, Dam Rong ethnic cultural conservation area... so the locality has many advantages to develop tourism. "Currently, there is an additional Meka rice field, so we have advised people not to split rocks or take rocks out of the fields to develop tourism in the future," Mr. Dung added.
With the natural, pristine beauty of Meka rice fields, it is hoped that in the near future, Da Tong commune will build this area into a unique tourist attraction and experience, helping people develop the economy, increase income, and stabilize their lives.
