Receiving information that many fishing boats of fishermen would be returning to shore to sell fish, the seafood purchasing team led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem in Quynh Long commune arrived at Lach Quen port very early to wait. A while later, the large fishing boats of Quynh Luu fishermen slowly approached the shore to anchor. The seafood purchasing team went to the boats to meet the captains and fishermen to inquire about the fishing situation and agree on the purchase price of hairtail fish.
Among the boats returning to shore, the most excited was the boat of fisherman Nguyen Van Quang in Quynh Long commune when he caught a big catch of over 10 tons of hairtail fish worth over 1 billion VND. While transporting seafood to shore, fisherman Quang said that the boat had been out at sea since January 5th, and during about 4 days of fishing at sea, the boat was lucky to catch a batch of hairtail fish with a yield of over 10 tons. Without waiting long, after finishing the catch, the boat immediately returned to Lach Quen port.
“It’s been a long time since the boat caught such a big catch of needlefish. Because we caught them in such a short time, the fish were very fresh. When we got to shore, the traders bought all of them. After this trip, we plan to continue fishing at sea tomorrow to earn more income before returning home for Tet holiday,” said fisherman Quang.
Sharing the joy, these days, fishing boats of fishermen in Quynh Long commune all return to shore with a big catch of needlefish; on average each boat catches 10 - 15 tons, earning 1 - 1.5 billion VND.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem, a seafood trader, from January 1st until now, fishing boats from Quynh Long commune have continuously returned to shore with a good seafood season. Some boats have gone 2-3 nights and caught a lot of valuable hairtail fish, then immediately returned to shore to sell.
“Today, 3-4 fishing boats returned to shore with a big catch of hairtail, so each trader bought about 5-7 tons and transported them for sale. The price of grade 1 hairtail is currently 110,000 VND/kg. Although this price is lower than previous years, in return, every boat has achieved high output.”
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Chat - Chairman of the Quynh Long Commune Fisheries Association (Quynh Luu), the entire commune currently has 38 offshore fishing vessels, including 30 purse seine vessels. In 2023, the total seafood output in the commune reached over 15,000 tons, generating billions of VND in revenue. In the first fishing trips of the new year 2024, many fishing vessels went to sea with high output, and their income value also increased. From now until Tet, fishermen can go to sea for 1-2 more trips.
