"For the first time after regaining independence, the two countries stand on the threshold of peace, pledging to respect each other's sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders," Mr. Bayramov emphasized.
According to the diplomat, despite the "suffering, deprivation and devastation that the Azerbaijani people have experienced for many years", Baku is working to ensure lasting peace with Yerevan.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister affirmed that there are real opportunities and prospects for establishing peace, strengthening stability, ensuring peaceful coexistence, promoting the peace agenda, investing in economic development and cooperation.
The decades-long conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh flared up in September 2020, marking the worst escalation since the 1990s.
Hostilities ended with a Russian-brokered trilateral ceasefire declaration signed in November 2020. The two former Soviet states agreed to allow Russia to deploy peacekeeping forces in the region.
