Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of launching 93 missiles and nearly 200 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into Ukraine today, December 13.
President Zelensky announced that Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 81 Russian missiles, including 11 missiles shot down by F-16 fighter jets, according to Reuters.
Ukrainian F-16 fighter jets at an undisclosed location in Ukraine on August 4.
This is one of the biggest Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy system, according to Reuters.
The Russian Defense Ministry later announced that Russia had carried out a major attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure in retaliation for Kyiv's use of US-supplied ATACMS missiles, according to Reuters.
The Russian Defense Ministry also claimed that long-range air and sea precision weapons and UAVs were used against "important facilities of Ukraine's fuel and energy infrastructure supporting the military-industrial complex."
Also on December 13, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov inspected the Eastern Operational Group in the area of Russia's military operation in Ukraine, according to TASS News Agency.
"Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov held a working meeting at the command center of the Eastern Operational Group, where he listened to reports from commanders on the current situation, the nature of enemy activity and the fulfillment of combat tasks by Russian troops in the operational directions within their area of responsibility," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Commander of the Eastern Operational Group Andrey Ivanayev reported to Minister Belousov that the group's units had taken control of an area of more than 300 square kilometers.
There is currently no information about Ukraine's reaction to the above statement of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
