The Russian Foreign Ministry accused Ukraine of using Australian UAVs to attack targets on Russian territory, warning Canberra that it was getting deeper into the conflict.
"Australian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were indeed used to attack targets in Russia," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on September 5.
Ms Zakharova was commenting on a report in the Sydney Morning Herald last week that Ukraine had used Australian UAVs to attack an airport in the Russian city of Kursk.
Ms Zakharova accused the Australian government of "enthusiastically contributing to the US-led anti-Russian campaign", while trying to hide from public opinion "the circumstances that show Canberra is increasingly being drawn into the conflict in Ukraine".
Australian and Ukrainian officials have not commented on the information.

Ms. Zakharova also said on September 5 that Moscow received information that a number of European arms manufacturers, especially Germany's Rheinmetall and the Swedish subsidiary of Britain's BAE Systems, plan to set up operations to produce, repair and maintain military equipment for the Ukrainian armed forces.
“We view these intentions as evidence that the Western defense industry and policymakers are directly involved in the conflict and supporting Kiev,” she said.
The Russian embassies in Germany and Sweden have protested against the companies’ plans, Zakharova said, adding that the Western defense industry’s blatant attempts to profit from the conflict would only escalate tensions in Ukraine.
