Russia launches new air strikes, simultaneously attacking Kiev and seaports

The main target was the Ukrainian port of Izmail on the Danube River (Odessa region). At the same time, Russian drones also attacked targets in the Ukrainian capital.

In Izmail, huge explosions were heard. The port and oil facilities were destroyed.

On August 2, the Ukrainian government announced that the port had to stop operating.

The Russian attacks were aimed at shutting down military facilities at the port on the Danube to prevent new attacks on the Black Sea Fleet. The port of Izmail, as well as other facilities on the Danube, were used by the Ukrainian military to produce, store, and launch surface and air drones in attacks on Crimea and ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

In recent days, the Ukrainian military, with the support of NATO reconnaissance, has carried out a number of attacks on Russian military and civilian ships in the Black Sea.

On the other hand, Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea and Danube have marked the end of the grain deal. On July 19, the Russian Defense Ministry warned that “due to the termination of the Black Sea Initiative and the closure of the maritime humanitarian corridor on July 20, 2023, all ships passing through the Black Sea to Ukrainian ports will be considered to be carrying potential military cargo.”

After the grain deal was terminated, Russia declared the northern Black Sea a dangerous shipping zone, a common practice in military conflicts.

Foreign ships are banned from entering Ukrainian ports. However, on July 30, Kiev claimed another victory after a civilian cargo ship reportedly entered the port of Izmail. The Israeli, Greek and Turkish ships reportedly “broke through the blockade” and entered Ukraine under the supervision of four NATO fighter jets patrolling the Black Sea.

Last night, the Russian Armed Forces also attacked the Kiev region with drones. The attacks were likely retaliation for Kiev’s attempts to attack civilian targets in Moscow. In the attack, the Ukrainian military only broke some windows of the skyscraper used by Russian ministries. On the Russian side, Geranium drones heavily damaged the building housing one of Kiev’s most secretive agencies, the State Administration of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities confirmed some damage to an administrative building.

On the front lines, fighting is still intense, many Ukrainian weapons were destroyed by Russian firepower.
