Russia launches fierce attack on Ukrainian garrison
Russian troops have broken through Ukrainian defenses and launched a new offensive on the city of Chasov Yar in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.
According to SF, in recent days, assault groups of Russian forces have carried out several successful attacks. As a result, they broke through the main Ukrainian defense line along the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal and entered the city of Chasov Yar. Russian forces have gained control of the eastern streets of the Oktyabrsky district.
The attack was carried out by forces of the 11th and 98th Airborne Divisions of the Russian Armed Forces. They advanced about 250 meters into the Ukrainian defenses.

According to unconfirmed reports, Russian forces used several tunnels to attack the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Previously, the Russian military also carried out similar attacks on the rear of Ukrainian forces through tunnels in Avdeevka and Toretsk.
The new offensive became more feasible after the Russian army took full control of the eastern part of the Kanal district and expanded its control zone along the entire eastern bank of the Seversky Donetsk-Donbass canal in recent weeks.
The water level in the canal is not high, but it is still difficult for armored vehicles to cross without pontoon bridges. The Ukrainian military has also heavily mined the area and built fortified positions along the canal.
Currently, Russian assault units have also launched new attacks in the Novy district. The Russian Armed Forces command likely wants to keep the Ukrainian garrison engaged in fighting and force the enemy to withdraw units from the outer defense line into the city streets. The main part of the Ukrainian garrison is likely to retreat to the Chasov Yar industrial area in the coming days.
On the outskirts of the city, Russian troops are expanding their control in the Kalinovka area. At the same time, Ukraine is concentrating its forces east of the city and stepping up attacks to gain control of important heights, as losing them would complicate the situation for the garrison in this direction.
Russian army tightens siege, Ukrainian forces face difficult situation
On July 31, AVP reported that the assault units of the 132nd Motor Rifle Brigade (Russia) continued to advance and were ready to close the encirclement of Ukrainian forces in New York. Russian units only had to cover 2,150 meters to close the encirclement. Inside the encirclement were at least 15 fortification units, as well as an infantry battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

However, the Russian military will also face significant obstacles to completing its plan. The 4,300-meter stretch of road between the villages of Yuzhny and Zelenaya Balka has several strategic positions that are still under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. These positions include: a 169-meter elevation north of the clay mine, the Zheleznaya River bed, the Dzerzhinsk Central Processing Plant’s settling tank, and a 40-meter elevation in the Dzerzhinsk landfill area. All of these positions are equipped with a dense chain of fortifications, from which the Ukrainian Armed Forces launch anti-tank missiles and machine gun crews fire continuously.
