With unique architecture, 3 underground stations of metro line 1 in Ho Chi Minh City have been completed, ready for the day the train goes into commercial operation.
After 7 years of construction, Ben Thanh station was completed with 4 basements, 236m long, 60m wide, 32m deep. This is the largest station of the 14 stations on the line, and is the connection point of other metro lines in the future. The highlight of the station is the 6m high, 21.6m diameter skylight designed in the shape of a lotus flower. The well provides light for the basement floors. The first floor of the underground station covers an area of about 45,000 square meters. This is where the shopping mall, corridors, underground square, ticket machines, main lobby area and control gates are integrated. The passenger entrance area on the second floor has been equipped with route signs and signal lights. The rows of waiting seats, station route maps, restrooms... have also been completed. Not far from Ben Thanh station is the City Theater station. This underground station is 190m long, 26m wide, and has 4 floors. The first floor is a utility area serving passengers such as a waiting room, ticket machines, automatic toll gates, toilets... The ticket control area has 2 entrances divided into 16 lanes, including 4 wider lanes for people with disabilities. Next to it are the ticket sales and adjustment rooms, security monitoring, and station staff work areas. At the underground stations of metro line 1, there is also an automatic ticket vending machine system for passengers. Currently, the City Theater station has 27 operating staff, Ben Thanh and Ba Son stations have 23 and 24 staff respectively. The space, color scheme above the ceiling as well as the surrounding areas of this station are designed to resemble the architecture of the City Theater. At Ba Son station, workers are actively cleaning and wiping the floors and ceilings. Compared to the other two stations, Ba Son underground station is the smallest in scale with 2 floors, 240m long, more than 34m wide, 20m deep. The highlight of the station is the ceiling covered with white steel patterns, creating wavy shapes, symbolizing the Saigon river. The underground station floor is paved with ceramic tiles and has yellow walkways designed specifically for the disabled. The station has a 4m wide corridor. The wall has many empty spaces for advertising boards. Ba Son Station is also the last underground station before transferring to the elevated section. Metro Line No. 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien has a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, nearly 20km long from Ben Thanh station to Long Binh depot (Thu Duc city). In addition to the 3 underground stations mentioned above, the project also has 11 elevated stations. It is expected that this train line will officially be put into commercial operation on December 22.
