Meo Vac is one of four districts in the Stone Plateau, not only famous for its majestic natural landscape but also a place where the unique cultural values ​​of ethnic minorities, including the Lo Lo ethnic group, converge. In order to preserve, maintain and promote the traditional cultural beauty of the Lo Lo people, thereby creating attractive tourism products to attract visitors, Meo Vac district has implemented many synchronous solutions.

The Lo Lo ethnic group in Meo Vac district currently has more than 230 households with over 1,000 people, living mainly in Meo Vac town and Xin Cai and Thuong Phung communes. This is also one of 14 ethnic minorities with a population of less than 10,000 in Vietnam. Although they are a small group, the Lo Lo ethnic group here has a unique, rich and diverse culture, contributing significantly to creating a colorful cultural picture on the Stone Plateau.

One of the typical beauties of the Lo Lo people is their colorful and meaningful traditional costumes, which can be easily distinguished from other ethnic groups. Lo Lo women often wear skirts, jackets, headscarves and silver jewelry. The patterns on the costumes are meticulously hand-embroidered, often inspired by nature and the universe, expressing the concept of life and beliefs. Each pattern and color has its own meaning, reflecting the ingenuity and artistic soul of Lo Lo women.

In terms of beliefs and customs, the Lo Lo people in Meo Vac have a rich religious life, with many traditional rituals associated with the agricultural production cycle and spiritual life. Notably, the Forest God Worship Ceremony is an important ceremony expressing gratitude to nature and praying for favorable weather. Or the ancestor worship ceremony is also a typical custom, held on special occasions to commemorate the origin. The Lo Lo people consider their ancestors as gods who protect and bring luck and peace to their descendants.

In addition, the cultural beauty of the Lo Lo people in Meo Vac is also expressed through other aspects such as: brocade weaving art, traditional houses and architecture, cuisine, and community solidarity. Particularly for the art of brocade weaving, the Lo Lo people in Meo Vac have made a strong impression on tourists with their embroidery and brocade weaving. Through their skillful hands, they have created many unique products such as pants, shirts, scarves, bags, skirts, and hats. These products are not only everyday items but also cultural symbols. The patterns decorated on these products are considered a separate language, conveying stories about their lives, customs, and worldview.

Vice Chairman of Meo Vac District People's Committee, Ngo Manh Cuong said: Recognizing the importance of preserving the traditional cultural values ​​of the Lo Lo ethnic group in local socio-economic development, in recent years, the district has focused on directing the implementation of many solutions, including focusing on bringing traditional culture into teaching at schools; maintaining and improving the quality of the Lo Lo ethnic community cultural tourism village, Meo Vac town; propagating and mobilizing Lo Lo households to preserve traditional customs, practices and festivals; annually organizing the Lo Lo ethnic cultural festival; consolidating the activities of the Lo Lo ethnic brocade embroidery cooperative...

Recently, Meo Vac district successfully organized the Lo Lo Ethnic Cultural Festival in 2024. This is an annual cultural activity and also an effective solution that the district focuses on maintaining and implementing to preserve and promote the traditional cultural values ​​of Lo Lo, and at the same time is a bridge to promote local tourism. Within the framework of the festival program, there are many unique and attractive activities such as: Reenacting the Rain Praying Ceremony, Village Washing Ceremony of the Lo Lo people; folk art exchange; traditional sports competitions; enjoying local cuisine; visiting booths displaying handicraft products...

Also according to Vice Chairman of Meo Vac District People's Committee, Ngo Manh Cuong: The cultural beauty of the Lo Lo ethnic group is not only a valuable asset but also a great potential to attract tourists to the locality. Therefore, based on the existing beauty and traditional cultural values ​​of the Lo Lo ethnic group, in the coming time, the district will continue to implement synchronous solutions to preserve and promote the cultural values ​​of the Lo Lo ethnic group. Thereby, it not only contributes to preserving cultural identity but also promotes the development of the local tourism industry, creates more jobs and increases income for the people.
