The atmosphere in the countryside of Le Thuy (Quang Binh) is bustling and bustling with the sound of pots and pans clanging. For nearly a month, people here have been preparing for festivals held on the occasion of National Day, September 2. For a long time, this locality has been famous as the place to celebrate "the biggest Independence Day in the country".
Early in the morning of September 2, people gathered on both sides of the Kien Giang River, choosing a good spot in advance, some holding basins to scoop water, others holding pots, drums, and trumpets to cheer. September 2 is also the time when the traditional boat racing festivals on the Kien Giang River enter the final round, finding the racing team with the best results.
The festival opened at 7am on September 2nd. At this time, all racing boat teams with nearly 1,300 athletes gathered in front of the floating stage, attended the opening ceremony, swore an oath to the rules of the game and prepared their spirit and health thoroughly to have the best race.
Mr. Le Van Sau (43 years old, Le Thuy District, Quang Binh), a rowing athlete, prepared a bowl of fresh sliced lemon for the entire team. According to Mr. Sau, before participating in the swimming race, each person eats a piece of lemon to have the energy to cheer and support each other during the race.
The festival had the participation of 10 female racing teams, 24 male racing teams, the female racing teams started first followed by the male racing teams. The most bustling place was along the two banks of Kien Giang River, where thousands of people gathered to cheer, they held buckets to splash water for the athletes to swim across, loudly shouting the name of the local racing team to add more spirit to the athletes.
This joyful and bustling atmosphere always takes place in the countryside of Le Thuy every time the National Day, September 2nd, comes around.
