According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the winter-spring crop of 2023 - 2024, the whole province planted 25,969 hectares of rice. Of which, the area of high-quality rice is 20,500 hectares; the area of large-field rice production is over 7,000 hectares; the area of rice linked to production and product consumption is over 1,380 hectares (organic rice production area 669.75 hectares; VietGAP 93.9 hectares; towards food safety 102 hectares; rice seed production 63 hectares; commercial rice production over 447 hectares).
Taking advantage of favorable weather, localities in the province have started harvesting the winter-spring rice crop of 2023 - 2024. As of April 23, 2024, the whole province has harvested over 3,000 hectares.
Of which, Gio Linh district has 1,000 hectares; Hai Lang district has 1,000 hectares; Vinh Linh district has 400 hectares; Trieu Phong district has 300 hectares; Cam Lo district has 200 hectares; Dakrong district has 60 hectares and Huong Hoa district has 40 hectares.

The winter-spring crop harvest of 2023-2024 is expected to end before May 10, 2024. Through inspection by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as assessments by localities, the winter-spring crop of 2023-2024 will be a bumper crop with the total rice yield of the province estimated at over 61 quintals/ha (equivalent to the winter-spring crop of 2022-2023 and Hai Lang district with an estimated yield of over 67 quintals/ha); rice output is estimated at over 160,000 tons. In particular, the price of fresh rice at the beginning of the season fluctuates from 7,500 - 9,000 VND/kg, making farmers happy and excited.
Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong requested the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hai Lang district as well as localities to actively support farmers to harvest rice quickly according to the set plan, to soon organize the summer-autumn crop production in 2024; coordinate with units and enterprises to implement product consumption for people. Farmers also need to proactively speed up the progress of rice harvesting in the fields, preserve and process to ensure product quality.
