I think, as the name of the autobiography "Love to live" suggests, it has instilled in readers a source of energy full of love for life.

I have known the author Nguyen Bich Lan for more than 10 years, also from her first autobiography titled “Don’t Fall”. Released in early 2013, “Don’t Fall” has been reprinted 12 times. The book’s appeal is so great because the author herself is an extraordinary example of will to live. Suffering from a rare disease called progressive muscular dystrophy (muscle cells in the body gradually degenerate) since the age of 13, leading to limited mobility and many other health problems, Nguyen Bich Lan was forced to drop out of school after finishing 8th grade. With her strong will to live, she taught herself English, general knowledge and all the knowledge she could; and then she discovered her great potential: translating books.

If the first autobiography tells about the journey of standing up and moving forward "without falling down", then in the second autobiography Nguyen Bich Lan talks about experiencing, enjoying life and trying to "live her life fully and kindly".

Although she still has to live with a terminal illness, she does not accept a boring life but decides to choose the "challenge" of conquering "Everest": "Climbing to the most difficult peak to conquer in the literary translation profession - that is translating classic literary works".

It was an arduous and extremely hard journey, draining almost all her strength and brainpower; even the “careless slips of a mountain climber”. But, with extraordinary effort, perseverance, and courage, the small woman weighing less than 30 kg has successively conquered the peaks: she is the translator of more than 60 books, including “best-sellers” that have been reprinted many times, becoming a phenomenon in the translated book market such as: “My Sweet Orange Tree”, “Slumdog Millionaire”, “Wild Palm”, “Angela’s Ashes”, “Learning”, “A Prayer from Chernobyl”, “Autobiography of a Geisha”…

Her efforts have been recognized with many awards such as: Vietnam Writers Association Award for excellent translation; National Book Award; Vietnamese Talent Award; one of 8 contemporary women honored at the Vietnam Women's Museum...

However, for Nguyen Bich Lan, the greatest prize is “to live with passion and see the products she makes being widely used”. Her happiness is multiplied when her own works are also a source of inspiration, bringing useful values to readers, such as “My Sweet Orange Tree” which arouses love and understanding for children; “To Study”, “Angela’s Ashes”, “Color of Water”… promote and encourage the spirit of self-study, encourage perseverance in pursuing the path of education to reach a bright future…

Every day spent with Bich Lan is a blessing, a reward, and she is always grateful for it. She feels grateful for everything in life, even the smallest things.

She wrote: “Having gone through days of prolonged shortness of breath leading to terrible fatigue, I always feel grateful when I feel each breath in and out of my body easily and regularly”; “I always feel grateful that even though I had to drop out of school after finishing 8th grade, I still maintained my spirit of curiosity, my desire to learn so that I could study on my own…”; “I always feel grateful that I can do the literary translation work that I am truly passionate about every day (…). I am grateful that hundreds of thousands of readers have read the books I translate, and many of them have found ways to connect with me, becoming my friends and loyal readers”…

Not only that, she has turned her gratitude into concrete actions, with the desire to contribute to the community and inspire others to join. She saves and collects money from translating, writing books, writing articles, selling books to help the disadvantaged; donates books to schools in remote areas with the desire to help children form the habit of reading; goes to places to talk about the benefits of reading and self-study for students, prisoners, etc.

Reading the autobiography “Love to live”, besides admiring the author’s willpower and energy for life, readers also learn many useful lessons to make their life “an interesting journey”.

These lessons are drawn from the author's own life experiences, so they are very practical and not empty. Anyone can do them if they want: accept yourself; overcome negative emotional climaxes; accept challenges; nurture willpower; self-study; use the right to choose; live with passion; maintain gratitude...

Nguyen Bich Lan believes that: "Life does not present everything for everyone, but it ensures that everyone has the opportunity to reach better days", "The world has flowers blooming every day, only you and I are busy blaming life for missing out on the fragrant seasons"...
