Long An province delegation works at John Cockerill Group
John Cockerill is a multi-industry group headquartered in Belgium, with a long history of development since 1817. The group operates in fields such as mechanical engineering, renewable energy production, water treatment, defense technology, and automation. John Cockerill is present in more than 20 countries worldwide and owns thousands of leading engineers and experts. The group's projects always focus on sustainable development, innovation and application of modern technology, aiming to provide advanced solutions for key industries.
At the working session at the John Cockerill Group Headquarters in Liege (Belgium), the Group's leaders expressed special interest in the Vietnamese market, especially the Mekong Delta region, including Long An province - a place with great potential for economic development, rich natural resources, and a favorable business environment.
The Group will focus on developing renewable energy technologies, hydrogen technologies, and researching and investing in hydrogen electrolysis projects in Vietnam. In a strategic move to materialize its investment expansion plan in Vietnam, the John Cockerill Group has decided to move its Asia-Pacific regional office from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City. This decision affirms the Group's long-term commitment to the Vietnamese market and the Mekong Delta region.
Talking to the Group, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc expressed his welcome for John Cockerill's investment expansion plan in Vietnam, especially choosing Long An as one of the potential locations, with outstanding capacity in the field of renewable energy and sustainable technology, the Group is completely in line with the green development orientation that the province is aiming for.
He said that Long An currently has a great need to develop clean energy and renewable energy to meet the needs of economic growth and minimize environmental impacts. The provincial leaders suggested that the Group study the potential of clean energy, especially biomass electricity from abundant available raw materials, along with studying the formation and development of hydrogen energy sources, studying technological cooperation with the LNG liquefied gas plant project in Can Giuoc district, especially evaluating the investment opportunity for Vietnam's first electrolysis plant in the province.
Long An can meet the conditions that the Group is looking for, the province is always ready to support, join with John Cockerill, central ministries, branches and partners with strong finances to build and form the above project. Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc suggested, right after the working program in Europe, invite the leader of John Cockerill to arrange a working session in Long An in December to discuss in detail the cooperation plans, specify the orientations and conduct field surveys to assess the investment potential in Long An.
Continuing the working session with the Group, the provincial leaders made a survey trip to learn about the small modular nuclear reactor (SMR) model, which is an advanced technological solution with a compact size, suitable for providing energy to areas requiring energy stability such as industrial parks and clusters.
Long An can study and apply this model to provide energy for industrial activities, reduce pressure on the national grid, meet advanced standards, and ensure environmental safety.
John Cockerill Group's Nuclear Technology Model Survey
Following the working schedule in Belgium, the Long An delegation had a series of effective bilateral meetings with the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium, the Vietnam-Belgium Alliance, and the Vietnam Business Association in Belgium. At the meetings, organizations and association representatives highly appreciated Long An's development potential, while emphasizing the compatibility between the province's needs and the strengths of Belgian investors.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Nguyen Van Thao said that Long An is a locality with great potential, a strategic location, and an extremely dynamic and open provincial government. The Ambassador informed that Belgian businesses with strengths in renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, semiconductor industry, healthcare, and logistics, etc. can absolutely find long-term cooperation opportunities in Long An.
The Ambassador also pledged to act as a bridge to promote connections between Belgian and Long An businesses, and suggested that the province actively promote its potential and have specific and practical plans to attract and welcome European investors to develop in the province. The two business organizations also wish to cooperate and request the province to support the provision of information to Belgian business delegations to Vietnam in the coming time.
Working at the Embassy of Vietnam in the Kingdom of Belgium
At the end of the working session, the Long An delegation expressed their confidence in the sustainable cooperative relationship with organizations and businesses in Belgium. With the support of the Vietnamese Embassy and associations, Long An hopes to soon implement breakthrough projects, making the province one of the key economic and industrial centers of Vietnam and the region.
According to the schedule, the delegation is expected to continue working in the Federal Republic of Germany, attend and coordinate the organization of two investment seminars in Cologne and Frankfurt, work and survey factories of German corporations investing in Long An./.
