A restaurant in Malaysia has launched a new dish consisting of ramen noodles served with durian rice, attracting many diners.
Japanese ramen restaurant Menya Shishido, located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, launched its new dish on May 15. The ramen is made with a broth made from simmered bones and vegetables (dashi). Menya Shishido adds fresh durian to the broth to enhance its richness and flavor. Diners eat it with char siu, eggs, onions and durian rice.

Each bowl costs from RM40 (over VND200,000), served in a durian shell instead of a ceramic bowl. Customers are encouraged to wear gloves when eating to avoid being pricked by the sharp thorns. In addition, the restaurant can provide bowls to scoop out and eat.
On the first day the noodles were added to the main menu, the restaurant had to announce that they were sold out by 4 p.m. So many people came that they ran out of durian shells to make bowls. The restaurant said they hoped the dish would be a "flavor bomb" combining ramen and the king of fruits. Therefore, durian noodles are also called king ramen by the restaurant.

Menya Shishido is one of the city's most daring restaurants, often offering dishes with unusual flavors. In February, they introduced a butter croissant ramen with a black garlic curry soup that was poured over the croissant. On Valentine's Day, they offered a chocolate ramen. In 2021, they attracted a lot of customers with their green tea ramen. On Tripadvisor, the restaurant has a 4/5 star rating. Many international visitors have visited and left comments praising the unique flavors. However, some have said that the food here is too spicy.
