Sharing with Giao Thong Newspaper about the music program "Russian Melody" taking place in Hanoi - Hue - Da Nang, he expressed his wish that even the most ordinary audience can access scholarly music.
Come to opera because of "fate"
The music program "Russian Melody" recently held in Hanoi left many echoes in the hearts of classical music lovers. How do you feel?
Singer Nguyen Khac Hoa is currently a doctoral student at the Gnesin National Academy of Music (Russian Federation).
After the performance, I was really happy to receive endless applause from the audience. This project is a small first step for upcoming projects that will be performed in Vietnam. I hope that in the future, Vietnamese audiences will be able to listen to and understand more about classical music.
Classical music is like a business card promoting the country's innovation. I hope that Vietnamese classical music will have changes.
What brought you to opera?
I came to opera not very early, but when I got in touch with it, I saw the scholarship there and I wanted to conquer it. During my studies, I was very lucky to receive a scholarship to study abroad in Russia. The more I studied, the more passionate I became.
Of course, the path I have chosen is not easy. Because Vietnamese classical music still does not have a truly professional environment like Europe to develop. However, I think, the environment is created by ourselves.
I hope to have more opportunities to work with both training schools in Vietnam and art establishments to find a common voice and suitable direction.
How do you evaluate the current Vietnamese classical music market?
The first opera written by composer Do Nhuan in 1963 marked the beginning. If we take 1963 as the starting point, Vietnamese classical music is very young compared to the world. Although young, Vietnamese classical music has a national character. This is a unique point that we need to promote and develop so that our friends around the world can enjoy the sophistication and uniqueness.
The Vietnamese classical music market has great potential and the number of classical music listeners is increasing. As the country develops, the demand for enjoying academic art will certainly increase.
Promoting Vietnamese culture through music
Do you encounter any difficulties when working in the arts abroad?
For me, studying and researching at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music for nearly 10 years has been a great honor. This is a school with nearly 130 years of music training experience, providing Russia and the world with high-quality human resources in the field of music. Particularly in Vietnam, the school has trained many experts and they are working in major conservatories and prestigious music organizations.
The highly competitive and harsh environment here gives me a lot of knowledge and experience. I have to try hard to learn a lot. In addition, I also have to work hard to find opportunities to promote Vietnamese culture to friends around the world.
Opera artist Nguyen Khac Hoa.
Currently, the number of Vietnamese students studying in Russia is quite large, this is a channel to promote the image of the country. Every Vietnamese person abroad is a cultural ambassador of the country, if they know how to take advantage of it to promote.
In order for young artists to have favorable conditions to promote the image of Vietnamese culture to the world, what do you think is necessary?
In recent times, many domestic artist groups have gone abroad to perform and promote the image of Vietnam through music. However, it is also necessary to recognize that, in order for the policy to be more effective, we also need to learn from and refer to the experiences of other Asian countries, which have done very well, such as: Japan, China, Korea...
What are your plans for the future after defending your doctoral thesis?
I will have a show in Italy this July and will have a short course with an expert there. This year, I will defend my doctoral thesis and perform a tour of Japan in September 2024.
I really want to return to contribute to the country. However, I also think that, no matter where I am, I can still contribute in one way or another. I want to travel a lot, meet a lot, absorb new things and want to contribute a small part in building a bridge to combine the world's quintessence with Vietnamese cultural traditions, creating unique cultural products.
Thank you!
