The emotional sharing of the "Uncle Ho's soldiers", the information answering questions about life, study, training in military life..., left a strong impression on the attendees.
Last weekend, the program "A Day with Soldiers" for students took place at the Vietnam House in the US capital on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day.
This is the first time a traditional learning activity for the young generation has been held in the US to celebrate the country's major holiday, with the participation of many young people not only in the capital Washington, but also in San Francisco, New York and Houston in an online format.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung affirmed that the Vietnam People's Army is the world's most special army with "famous feats of arms that shook the world" right from the early stages of its establishment.
The Ambassador highly appreciated the initiative of the Embassy and the Vietnamese Defense Attaché Office in the US to organize the program, and expressed his hope that through this activity, young people will better understand the history of the nation and the traditions of the Vietnamese army, thereby increasing patriotism and national pride, and being more confident when living, studying and working abroad.
The learning and exchange program was very rich and exciting. The opening song was “Singing Forever the Military March” performed by a male choir consisting of soldiers from the Defense Attaché Office and the Peacekeeping Department, along with the wives of the Embassy.
Next are videos about the country's history, the history of the Vietnamese army, interesting games and knowledge competitions, which have attracted enthusiastic participation from not only teenagers in Washington but also online.
The highlight of the program is the exchange between young people and soldiers of the Peacekeeping Force working at the United Nations (New York).
The emotional sharing of the "Uncle Ho's soldiers", the information answering questions about life, study, training in military life..., left strong impressions on the young people attending.
Secretary of the Washington Party Committee for Wives and Husbands Pham Hoang Long shared that through the program, the Organizing Committee hopes that young people will better understand the heroic history of the Vietnamese army, increasing national pride, especially for young people studying and living abroad.
After the knowledge and exchange session, the participating teenagers also experienced the first lessons in the military such as folding blankets and performing command movements instructed by officers of the Defense Attaché Office.
At the end of the experience, Defense Attaché to the US Do Van Dang highly appreciated the spirit of the participating youth and further explained that discipline and high unity are the foundation for the invincible strength of the Vietnamese army.
The program ended with a traditional bamboo dance performed by the students. Male students in military uniforms danced rhythmically with female students in national costumes, demonstrating the close relationship between the army and the people, one of the important values that create the strength of the Vietnam People's Army.
Before the end of the program, the participating youth presented fresh bouquets of flowers to the soldiers of the Defense Attaché Office and the Peacekeeping Force, thereby expressing their respect and gratitude for the contributions of those who have contributed to bringing peace to the country today./.
