Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) officially came into operation, marking an important turning point in the urban transport system of Ho Chi Minh City.
This is not only an iconic project of modern infrastructure but also an important foundation for tourism development, especially sustainable green tourism, connecting a series of unique cultural, historical and entertainment destinations of the city.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, with a length of 19.7km and 14 stations, the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line not only helps reduce traffic but also brings new opportunities to explore the city in a convenient and environmentally friendly way.
This metro line connects the central and eastern areas of the city, bringing visitors closer to many prominent attractions with fast travel time and cost savings, along with a variety of unique experiences.
Specifically, Ben Thanh Station (District 1) is located right in the center of Ho Chi Minh City, an ideal gateway for visitors to explore works and symbols such as Ben Thanh Market, City Theater, People's Council - People's Committee headquarters, Nguyen Hue walking street, Museum of Fine Arts.
From Tan Cang Station (Binh Thanh District), visitors can easily access Landmark 81 - the iconic building of the City in the new era.
In addition, visitors can visit the Landmark 81 Skyview Observatory located on the top 3 floors of the building to admire the panoramic view of Ho Chi Minh City from the Sky Touch bridge located at an altitude of nearly 400 m, and participate in adventure games such as virtual reality skydiving.
The Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line also connects many tourist destinations in the area, including Suoi Tien Cultural Tourism Area (an entertainment center combining a variety of traditional and modern values, famous for its long-standing cultural-historical-spiritual works and increasingly developing new works suitable for the trend of green experiential tourism); the Hung Kings Memorial Temple and the Temple of Duc Le Thanh Hau Nguyen Huu Canh are two outstanding cultural-historical works in Thu Duc city (both located in the National Cultural and Historical Park) which are must-see attractions when exploring the Southern land.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, said that the official commercial operation of the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line is expected to be a lever for the development of the city's tourism industry. Through convenient connections, visitors can easily access cultural, historical and entertainment sites, providing a complete journey for both locals and domestic and international tourists.
In addition, using the metro line contributes to reducing emissions, protecting the environment and encouraging the habit of using public transport.
In the Project on Smart Tourism Development in Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2020-2025, with a vision to 2030, the City focuses on building a smart tourism system towards the main goals including convenience for tourists, smart destinations, smart business ecosystem; proactively analyzing and forecasting needs, trends, and preferences to better plan development.
Currently, the Department of Tourism has effectively deployed many comprehensive and synchronous digital transformation solutions, not only in management and state management but also in practical application in promoting and attracting domestic and foreign tourists.
Statistics show that in 2024, international visitors to Ho Chi Minh City are estimated to reach 6 million, an increase of 20% over the same period (100% of the plan).
Domestic tourists are estimated at 38 million, up 8.6% over the same period (100% of the plan). Total tourism revenue is estimated at VND 190,000 billion, up 18.8% over the same period in 2023 (100% of the plan for 2024)./.
