It’s unclear how many Meta employees are affected by the latest round of cuts. A Meta spokesperson said the company is looking for jobs for those who have lost their jobs: “Today, several departments at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with our long-term strategic goals and location strategy. This includes moving some teams to different locations and moving some employees to different roles.”

In X, Jane Manchun Wong, a former Meta employee, said her position was affected. Her LinkedIn profile revealed she had worked as a security engineer at Facebook’s parent company.

Meta has gone through several rounds of layoffs in recent years. CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously said the pursuit of “efficiency” would be permanent at the company, launching a “year of efficiency” last year.

As of March, Meta had cut 22% of its workforce since its first major round of layoffs in late 2022, when the company laid off 11,000 people. In 2023, it lost another 10,000 jobs and canceled 5,000 job openings.

This time, employees from recruiting, legal, design, Threads, Reality Labs, Instagram, and WhatsApp lost their jobs, according to The Verge and TechCrunch .
