At the end of the third exam session of the 2024 high school graduation exam, Ms. Y Ve, a teacher at Dak Tang Kindergarten (Kon Plong District, Kon Tum), felt more relieved than usual. This morning, she finished the last exam in a quite comfortable mood.
Candidates happily leave the examination room
Ms. Y Ve shared that nearly 20 years ago, after completing the 9th grade program, she attended a preschool intermediate class. After completing the training program, she was accepted to work at the commune preschool. In recent years, to standardize her documents according to regulations, Ms. Y Ve intended to take the high school graduation exam, but because of her busy work, she kept putting it off.
This year, her daughter took the high school graduation exam. Encouraged by her daughter, she boldly spent time studying and then submitted her application for the exam with her daughter. Teaching keeps Ms. Y Ve busy all day. To prepare for the exam, she has been focusing on studying in the evenings for many months.
The house is nearly 40 km from the district center, so Ms. Y Ve's daughter lives and studies at Kon Plong District Ethnic Boarding High School. Because of that, the mother and daughter cannot review together. For the parts of knowledge she does not understand, she calls her daughter Y Tue for support and learns more on the internet. In the 2024 high school graduation exam, Ms. Y Ve will take 3 subjects: math, literature and geography.
On the first day of the graduation exam, the 37-year-old kindergarten teacher was driven by her husband on a motorbike to the district center. After several hours of struggling on the mountain pass, the couple finally arrived at the exam site.
Y Ve and her mother took the exam at the same exam site.
Having made an appointment in advance, Y Tue’s daughter (grade 12) was already standing at the school gate waiting for her parents. Before returning home to take care of the farm work, Y Ve’s husband reminded the mother and daughter to check their personal documents and exam registration papers to avoid any omissions. He also did not forget to send his best wishes in the hope that his wife and daughter would pass the exam together with the highest possible score.
"After many years of hesitation, my husband and children were always there to encourage and create conditions for me to boldly participate in the exam. On the day of the exam registration, my husband woke up early to cook rice and then took me to the district center. When we got there, he only told me and my child a few things and then hurried back because it was harvest time at home so I was very busy. With the encouragement of my husband and children, I was also given more strength to be determined to complete the exam well," Ms. Y Ve confided.
Because her house is far from the exam site, Ms. Y Ve was given favorable conditions and accommodation right at the exam site. Although the mother and daughter took the exam at the same school, they stayed in 2 different dormitories. Ms. Y Ve stayed with 5 other independent candidates. Her daughter ate, stayed and studied at school with her friends.
After each exam, mother and daughter took the opportunity to meet for a few minutes to ask about the test results. Y Ve and her daughter also did not forget to encourage each other to try to eat and rest regularly, to have the best health to complete the exam.
Although completing the 3 exams was not as expected, Ms. Y Ve was very happy and comfortable because she had tried her best.

"I took the exam, besides gaining a degree, I also wanted to motivate and set an example for my children to follow. Because no matter how difficult and arduous life is, we still have to overcome difficulties and excel in our studies. Whether sooner or later, studying is very important and necessary," Ms. Y Ve confided.
Mr. Bui Van Que, Deputy Head of the Kon Plong District Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities Examination Site, said that the examination site has 208 candidates taking the exam in 9 examination rooms. To further motivate the candidates, in addition to preparing facilities and service conditions at the examination site, the unit has planned to receive candidates to the school. Thereby, arranging accommodation and meals at the boarding area, supporting candidates during the exam days.
According to Mr. Que, in this year's high school graduation exam, at this testing site, there were 2 pairs of mothers and children taking the exam together. One case was a mother and child residing in Kon Ray district, the second case was a mother and child of Ms. Y Ve and her child Y Tue.
"The image of a mother and her child taking the exam is a beautiful and impressive one during the exam at the school. This is an example of effort and overcoming difficulties in studying for many people to follow," said Mr. Que.
