France French media reported that Kylian Mbappe may not receive the $88 million loyalty bonus to leave PSG as a free agent from the summer of 2024.
According to 90min on September 6, Mbappe has just reaffirmed to PSG that he will not renew his contract, although the two sides resumed negotiations since the end of August. The 24-year-old striker is even willing to give up his loyalty bonus worth 88 million USD. PSG's reaction is currently unknown. The French club can once again remove Mbappe from the squad, or let him continue playing.

Mbappe's relationship with PSG began to crack in June, when the French striker announced that he would not activate the extension clause until June 2025. Facing the risk of losing him for free in June 2024, President Nasser Al Khelaifi once issued an ultimatum asking Mbappe to extend his contract, or be sold in the summer transfer window. But in case of leaving, the French striker only wants to go to Real Madrid. With Real Madrid refusing to buy him at a high price last summer, the 2022 World Cup top scorer is willing to stay until June 2024 to be free to leave.
On July 21, the conflict reached its peak when PSG removed Mbappe from the squad for the Asian tour. Nearly a month later, the two sides resumed negotiations. However, by the end of the summer transfer window - August 31, the two sides had still not reached an agreement. At that time, Al Khelaifi said PSG was prepared for the risk that Mbappe would not renew.
PSG bought Mbappe outright from Monaco in 2018 for $200 million. According to French media, Al Khelaifi wants to recoup the transfer fee if he has to sell. Last summer, Al Hilal offered PSG a record fee of $300 million and only signed a one-year contract. The French team accepted the price, but Mbappe refused to move to Saudi Arabia.
Mbappe holds the record for scoring 217 goals in 263 games for PSG. In more than six seasons together, the 24-year-old striker helped the Parisian team win five Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups, two League Cups, two French Super Cups and reach the 2020 Champions League final. With the French national team, he won the 2018 World Cup, the 2021 Nations League and reached the 2022 World Cup final.
If he is left out of the PSG squad again, Mbappe may not be able to maintain his form. France are currently playing in the Euro qualifiers and if they get through, they will have a chance to compete for the championship in Germany in 2024.
