Participating in separate exams has become popular and is expected by candidates because it increases their chances of getting into university. This year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology increased its enrollment quota by 10% based on the score of the thinking assessment exam. Therefore, this year's exam attracted a large number of candidates. There were 14,000 candidates taking the exam in the first round (the number of registered candidates increased 5 times compared to the first round in 2024), taking place on January 18-19. The second round will be on March 8-9 and the third round will be on June 26-27.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the structure of the 2025 thinking assessment test will basically remain stable as in 2024 because the school has proactively changed the content and format of the test according to the 2018 general education program. Candidates can know the test results after 7 to 10 days from the test date. Currently, about 50 universities nationwide have announced that they will use the results of this test for admission.
Hanoi National University opened the registration portal for all 6 exam sessions of 2025 at the same time, starting from February 8; in which the first exam session took place on March 15-16, expected to accommodate 10,000 candidates. Through monitoring the capacity assessment exam in the past time, it shows that when the registration portal was first opened, due to the large number of candidates, it led to network congestion.
At this time, more than 10 universities nationwide plan to organize their own entrance exams to enroll students, as well as create conditions for other schools to use as a basis for admission.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), said that in addition to the high school graduation exam, if candidates want to apply to schools that organize their own exams or early admission, they need to carefully study the admission plans of the universities that have been announced on their official websites.
“You should choose one or two exams to participate in. Because each school will have different goals and assessments in different majors. If you have clearly determined the career you will pursue, candidates should only participate in one or two separate exams,” Ms. Thuy said.
According to Ms. Thuy, the admission quota ratio from each school's separate exam is also different. Candidates need to research carefully before deciding to register to avoid waste and inefficiency.
