Volume decreased, coffee exports in the first month of 2025 earned nearly 800 million USD

According to statistics from the Vietnam Coffee - Cocoa Association, in January 2025, Vietnam exported 154,635 tons of coffee, with an export turnover of 799.48 million USD.


Coffee export volume decreased but turnover still increased

According to statistics from the Vietnam Coffee - Cocoa Association, in January 2025, Vietnam exported 154,635 tons of coffee, with an export turnover of 799.48 million USD.

Of which, exported coffee beans reached 137,568 tons, with a turnover of 694.93 million USD, down 38.2% in volume but up 8.8% in turnover compared to the same period last year.

Processed coffee exports reached 17,067 tons, with a turnover of 104.55 million USD (volume converted according to ICO regulations), accounting for 11% of total volume and 13.1% of total turnover of all types of exported coffee.

In January 2025, FDI enterprises accounted for 21.8% of the total export volume of green coffee beans and 22.4% of the total export turnover of green coffee beans.

Previously, in 2024, domestic enterprises exported nearly 1.35 million tons of coffee, earning 5.62 billion USD , the highest level in history.

The average export price of coffee reached a record high, reaching 4,178 USD /ton, peaking at 5,855 USD /ton in November 2024. The price of green coffee beans in the domestic market also reached a peak of 131,000 VND/kg. After deducting costs, farmers earned more than 90,000 VND/kg.

Vietnam's coffee exports to Germany were the largest in 2024, accounting for 11.6% of the total volume and 10.7% of the total coffee export turnover of the country, reaching 155,703 tons, equivalent to 602.89 million USD, priced at 3,872 USD/ton, down 20.6% in volume, but up 31.6% in turnover and up 65.8% in price compared to 2023; in December 2024 alone, exports reached 13,492 tons, equivalent to 67.29 million USD, priced at 4,987 USD/ton, up sharply by 134.8% in volume, up 127.7% in turnover but down 3% in price compared to November 2024.

Coffee exports to Italy ranked second in the market, down 12.4% in volume, but up 41.3% in turnover and 61.3% in price compared to 2023, reaching 124,541 tons, equivalent to 459.6 million USD, priced at 3,690 USD/ton, accounting for 9.3% of the total volume and 8.2% of the total coffee export turnover of the country.

Coffee exports to the Spanish market increased by 11.9% in volume, 75.4% in value and 56.7% in price compared to 2023, reaching 102,099 tons, equivalent to 444.84 million USD, with an average price of 4,357 USD/ton, accounting for nearly 8% of the total volume and total value.

World coffee prices continued to rise today on the London and New York exchanges. Arabica coffee prices continued to rise for 9 consecutive sessions, Robusta recovered slightly. Domestic coffee prices increased by 1,000 - 1,100 VND/kg, to 128,300 - 129,200 VND/kg. Currently, more than 90% of the coffee area nationwide has been harvested.

This year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development targets total coffee output at 1.98 million tons, up slightly from last year. Meanwhile, the US Department of Agriculture forecasts global coffee consumption in the 2024-2025 crop year to increase by 5.1 million bags to 168.1 million. Vietnam's coffee exports are estimated to increase by 1.8 million bags to 24.4 million bags thanks to improved supply.

On February 5, Robusta coffee prices on the ICE Futures Europe London exchange for delivery in March 2025 increased by 24 USD, trading at 5,558 USD/ton. Delivery in May 2025 increased by 28 USD, trading at 5,548 USD/ton. Average trading volume.

Arabica coffee prices on the ICE Futures US New York exchange continued to increase sharply, with the March 2025 delivery term up 2.45 cents, trading at 383.35 cents/lb. Meanwhile, the May 2025 delivery term increased 3.05 cents, trading at 377.40 cents/lb. Trading volume was high.

Domestic coffee prices increased by VND1,000 - 1,100/kg compared to the previous day, fluctuating between VND128,300 - 129,200/kg.

Traders in Dak Nong province are purchasing raw coffee beans at the highest price of VND129,200/kg, an increase of VND1,000/kg compared to yesterday.

In Dak Lak and Gia Lai provinces, coffee prices also increased by VND1,000/kg and were purchased at VND129,000/kg.

In Lam Dong province, coffee prices were adjusted up by VND1,100/kg to VND128,300/kg.
