On the morning of February 5 (the 8th day of the Lunar New Year), Hoa Binh province solemnly held the opening ceremony of the Muong ethnic group's Khai Ha Festival in Hoa Binh province in 2025. The festival attracted thousands of people and tourists to attend.
The Khai Ha Festival of the Muong ethnic group in Hoa Binh province is the largest traditional folk festival of the Muong people in Hoa Binh, associated with wet rice agriculture, bearing many imprints of ancient Vietnamese civilization. This is an indispensable cultural and religious activity of the Muong people in Hoa Binh, especially in the four major Muong regions: Bi, Vang, Thang, Dong.
The Khai Ha Festival in each Muong region of Hoa Binh is held at different times and locations. The Khai Ha Festival in Muong Vang, Lac Son district is held on the 4th of January at Ang Ka Temple and at Mai Da Lang Vanh, Yen Phu commune on the 7th of January; The Khai Ha Festival in Muong Thang, Cao Phong district is held on the 5th and 6th of January at Ca Temple. The Khai Ha Festival in Muong Dong, Kim Boi district is held on the 3rd of May of the lunar calendar at Muong Chanh Temple. Each location where the festival takes place is associated with the history of the gods who founded the land and Muong.

The festival is meant to honor the gods, commemorate those who have contributed to the establishment of the land and Muong, and pray for favorable development of all things, bountiful harvests, a prosperous and happy life. Over time, the festival has become deeply rooted in the consciousness of the Muong community in Hoa Binh, preserved, maintained and promoted by local people; it is the place where many cultural and historical values of the Muong people crystallize and converge, and is the pride of the people of all ethnic groups in the province.
In 2022, the Khai Ha Festival of the Muong ethnic group in Hoa Binh province was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Speaking at the festival, Mr. Bui Duc Hinh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province emphasized that since 2023, the Muong Hoa Binh Ethnic Opening Festival has been organized at the provincial level and has attracted the attention of a large number of people and tourists. This is also a practical activity to implement the Project to preserve and promote the cultural values of the Muong ethnic group and the "Hoa Binh Culture" in the period of 2023 - 2030 in the province; thereby introducing and strongly promoting the culture, people, and beautiful natural landscapes of the locality.
The Muong ethnic group's Khai Ha Festival is held annually to educate the tradition of patriotism and national pride, thereby promoting historical and cultural values, raising awareness in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups associated with the development of typical tourism products, so that culture truly becomes a spiritual foundation, endogenous resources, and driving force for development; at the same time, encouraging all classes of people to enthusiastically compete in labor, production, and study to complete the goals and tasks of socio-economic development in 2025, contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the Party Congresses at all levels and the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.
