Da Nang Dozens of dismembered dragon mascots are scattered on vacant land by the sea, waiting for the city to approve investment to build a park.
Exactly two months after bringing dozens of dragon mascots from spring flower miniatures to a 2.7-hectare land northwest of the intersection of Vo Van Kiet and Vo Nguyen Giap streets, Son Tra district, the dragon mascot park has yet to be implemented.
During the transportation process, many parts of the dragon mascot had to be cut apart, causing some details to be damaged and deformed. Many of the iron frames were rusted from exposure to the sun and rain. The "golden land" managed by the city became shabby and overgrown with grass.

The Da Nang Department of Construction said the dragon mascot is made mainly of wood or foam, with a steel frame, and can be easily repaired. The delay in the park's implementation is due to funding. The city successfully called for socialization, initially expecting 2-3 billion VND, but the business submitted a plan for scale and landscape harmony, requiring 14.35 billion VND.
According to the proposal of the enterprise, the project consists of two sub-areas. The first sub-area with the theme of "ancient space", covering an area of over 1.7 hectares, recreates the image of national history. The second sub-area with the theme of "modern space", covering an area of one hectare, is decorated with dragon models combined with modern lighting effects technology.
"The park does not charge an entrance fee, so businesses want to build more utility areas to serve residents and tourists in order to have money for maintenance," said Mr. Phung Phu Phong, Director of the Department of Construction.
The land for the temporary park is part of the Financial Center project planning, so the enterprise proposes that if the State reclaims the land for other purposes 5 years earlier, it will create conditions for the relocation of the invested models to a new corresponding location for continued exploitation.
Because the enterprise's proposal was different from the original policy of the Da Nang City People's Committee to decorate the dragon park to create a check-in point for people, the Department of Construction advised the city's leaders to organize a meeting with the consulting unit and businesses participating in socialization.
If approved by the City People's Committee, the project will be implemented from the end of April and completed in June.
