Linking up to increase green exports

The provinces and cities in the Southeast region play a particularly important role in Vietnam's foreign economic and trade relations. Exports from localities in the region account for a large proportion of the country's exports and have expanded their markets to many countries.

For sustainable development, the problem for the business community as well as localities in the region is to connect and unite their strength for green production and green export to meet the increasingly high demands of the world.

Production transformation is the way to reach the ocean

For businesses, especially manufacturing and exporting businesses, green transformation has become a necessity. Without green transformation, businesses’ goods will have difficulty circulating in the international market in the future. Transforming production to meet new consumption trends such as green food, alternative products, or high requirements for traceability, etc. will also create a potential development roadmap for the business community.

According to Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc Trai, Chairman of the Vietnam Packaging Recycling Alliance, consumers increasingly prioritize environmentally friendly products, while domestic and international standards are tightening requirements on emissions and sustainability. The sooner a business converts, the more competitive advantage it will have and access to the global market compared to those who are hesitant.

Binh Tay Food Joint Stock Company (Binh Tay Food - Ho Chi Minh City) has an export market of 70-80%, the rest is the domestic market. Chairwoman of the Board of Directors Le Thi Ngoc Giau said that the company has spent a lot of money to invest in a modern factory following the circular economy direction. The company considers this an inevitable trend to meet the standards of demanding foreign markets. Exporting about 50 million USD each year, Binh Tay Food continues with the dream of conquering exports, so in addition to the large-scale factory in Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone (District 7), the company has received the transfer of production lines and technology from a unit in Taiwan and invested in building a factory in Trang Bom (Dong Nai) worth more than ten million USD.

For wood industry enterprises, greening production is even more urgent. Recently, wood production enterprises in Dong Nai have been implementing many solutions such as: changing diverse designs, expanding markets, and innovating technology.

Vice President of Dong Nai Wood and Handicraft Association Vo Quang Ha shared that the province’s wood industry is cooperating and linking with localities with large-scale wood production nationwide to move towards sustainable green production. At the same time, businesses in the industry are also focusing on investing in new machinery and technology, building raw material areas that meet the strict forest protection criteria and standards of demanding markets.

Linking to empower Vietnamese brands

Known as the “king” of Vietnamese fruit exports, Nguyen Dinh Tung, General Director of Vina T&T Group (Ho Chi Minh City), acknowledged that Vietnam’s agricultural exports still face many challenges. This is especially true for Vina T&T Group, as the company decided to choose the United States, an extremely demanding market, to exploit its export potential.

According to Mr. Tung, the United States strictly controls imported fresh fruits for pesticide residues, pathogens, and bacteria. If imported goods are found to contain unauthorized preservatives or fungal infections, they will be thoroughly inspected and risk losing their market, as they will be blacklisted. Not only that, Vietnam still does not have a common brand in the agricultural sector on the international stage. For Vietnamese agricultural products to make their mark on the international market, it is necessary to build a common home; this is also true for other products.

Accordingly, every entrepreneur and enterprise, no matter what brand they have, when going international, will be a common Vietnamese brand, a Vietnamese product, supporting each other, otherwise they will face fierce competition from international competitors.

“We have representatives in many countries, so we not only export fruits but also represent other businesses to sell their products. If we know how to connect, from the strength of each individual, we can form a unified block, exploiting the best potential of the partner market,” Mr. Tung commented.

According to experts, in addition to the issue of investing in product quality and finding partners, one of the good solutions is for export enterprises to join hands and bring their goods into the retail chains of their partners. Being able to cooperate with major retail brands in the world such as: Aeon, Central Retail, Mega Market, Lotte... will create more opportunities for enterprises to bring goods directly to consumers, thereby successfully exporting to many markets through distribution channels.
