Kangaroo Care is an essential and effective care method for premature and low birth weight babies. This method is widely recommended by the World Health Organization to improve the survival rate and quality of development of newborns.
Accordingly, immediately after birth and stabilization, newborns are exposed to continuous skin-to-skin contact (at least 20 hours/day) and in the correct position with their mother (or father). This helps regulate the baby's body temperature equivalent to or better than modern incubators; improves the baby's heart rate, breathing rate and blood oxygen; enhances breastfeeding and nutrition; and increases weight gain and development.
In addition, it will reduce the risk of hospital infections; shorten the length of hospital stay and save costs; strengthen the mother-child bond, reduce anxiety and postpartum depression in mothers, increase the sense of security and emotional development in children; bring many long-term positive impacts in the future.
