After the U23 Vietnam players finished their mission in the 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers, the Vietnam Olympic team had enough players to prepare for the 19th Asiad campaign, taking place in Hangzhou (China).

Specifically, the Vietnam Olympic team has 12 more players from the Vietnam U23 team, thereby increasing the number of training players to 24.
The players added to the Vietnam Olympic team include goalkeepers Cao Van Binh and Doan Huy Hoang; defenders Phan Tuan Tai, Nguyen Hong Phuc, Nguyen Duc Anh and Vo Minh Trong; midfielders Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Duc Phu, Nguyen Thai Son and Nguyen Dinh Bac; and strikers Nguyen Thanh Nhan and Bui Vi Hao.
These are all highly rated players who performed well in the recent 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers. In addition, most of the players are still young, in their U20s.
Previously, the Vietnam Olympic team had only 12 players including goalkeepers Do Sy Huy and Quan Van Chuan; defenders Tran Nam Hai, Le Nguyen Hoang and Nguyen Manh Hung; midfielders Nguyen Phi Hoang, Nguyen Duc Viet, Nguyen Cong Phuong and Dinh Xuan Tien; strikers Nguyen Quoc Viet, Vo Nguyen Hoang and Nham Manh Dung.
Among them, goalkeeper Do Sy Huy and striker Nham Manh Dung are the two players over 23 years old registered according to the tournament's regulations.
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan will have 3 days to strengthen his staff, balance the physical foundation between groups of players and hone the playing style of the whole team.
According to the regulations of the 19th Asiad Organizing Committee, each team can register a maximum of 22 players from a preliminary list of 30 players, so the Vietnam Olympic team will say goodbye to 2 players before leaving for China to participate in the tournament on September 16.
There are 23 teams participating in men's football at the 19th Asian Games and they are divided into 6 groups (5 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 3 teams). The Vietnam Olympic team is in the same group with Saudi Arabia, Iran and Mongolia.
The teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine rankings in each group. The top two teams in each group and the four third-placed teams with the best results in the six groups will advance to the round of 16.
The group stage matches will take place from September 19-24. The round of 16 will take place on September 26-27. The quarter-finals will be held on September 30. The semi-finals will be held on October 3. The third-place match and the final will be held on October 7.
Vietnam Olympic team competes in Group B, which is considered difficult, against Saudi Arabia, Iran and Mongolia. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan's team will face Mongolia (September 19), Iran (September 21) and Saudi Arabia (September 24).
